Did a little research on this but wanted some expert opinions before I spend $$.
On cold morning the speedo says 0, when I get to about 40-50 mph it slowly rises to about 10mph. After about 10-15 minutes of driving comes back to life. I thought this might be the speedo switch in the Differential.
Then this morning, with the key rotated to pos 2 without the engine running, tach went to max rpm, started engine and it read normal rpms. The fuel gauge also goes to 0 on occasion.
Since multiple items are failing I'm thinking its the display. I can get another display from another 1995 at the JY (Correct me if I'm wrong but the 95 has a unique electrical system from the earlier e34s). If I place the other display in, does it need coding?
Normally when the speedo just reads 0, a resistor is burned out (so I've read), but in my case it comes back, and even when cold will partially read something.
Change the display? Coding needed?

I would change the caps in the cluster http://bmwe32.masscom.net/johan/dash...dash_caps.html
