Hello all!
After an e46 m3 caught my eye one day a few years back, I knew I needed a bimmer.
Fast forward and just yesterday I acquired a 1996 750il with 160k mi for $500. It was that price for the reason, engine starts up and idles smooth and healthy sounding but when the the gas is pressed nothing happens. Previous owner said it was due to washing the engine bay with a hose.
From what I learned just before this impulse buy. Is that you shouldn't buy one of these unless you have money and are a skilled mechanic. Sadly I'm neither.
Appearance wise it definitely needs some work done to it.
- Interior is tan and quite dirty.
- Center console pulled apart.
- Paint has sun fading.
- Left headlight has hole in it.
- All of driver side door/window switches broken.
- Backseat switches for reclining seat not working.
- One or more of windows can't move.
- Rear view mirror fell off/passenger side missing glass.
My *hope* is to kinda fix it up here and there, and I'll already be thanking you in advance for any advice.
Will have more pics once it's towed.
So it is starts and idles just fine, probably pedal is not responding

Perform a diagnostic scan & post up the codes displayed.
Sweet deal!
Sounds like a fault in the throttle pedal sensor system. Will need to diagnose. Some info:

You might need some diagnostic software to help with this problem, but it might be worth a shot to try this:
-Headlights are cheap as dirt. Get an OE glass set, and the corner of your choice.
-Part outs will probably get you the center console trim, driver window switches, mirrors, etc but used regulators aren't worth the time.
-Rear headrests like to break, a lot.
-If you ever see a Z3 or e36 with the m44, grab its MAF immediately.

i have two very clean xenon headlights from my 1997 750, i'll let 'em go for a good deal, complete- just no bulbs. turn signals, bottom bracket, ballast, rear covers, bulb-fasteners, everything included.
what color is the car? i've got tons of body parts and stuff laying around i need to get rid of.
For $500 you really can't go wrong! That's a heck of a deal, especially when you consider how much a 750il was back when it was new. The previous owner may have damaged the two electronic throttle bodies when he washed under the hood, that's the only thing I can think of that would make the gas pedal not respond. The 750il was one of the first drive-by-wire cars out there, so it can be a little finicky.
