Question Gliding Lacquer OR Surface flock-finished SunRoof?

Hi all. I am painting the roof on my car and am going to change both rubbers on the sun roof at same time as they are 20 year old and windnoice is noticeable. The one that goes on the roof it self I know the partnumber for, but for the rubber around the glass it self is more complicated and has more options.

So I ask, can anyone tell me the diffrence between those to sun roofs?
"Surface coated with gliding Lacquer and the Surface flock-finished". English is not my native language, so I don't even know what those types mean.

Good question, I did not know there was any difference. It seems they have different lengths, so measure yours and you will know. Let us know how it works out because many of us plan to keep the cars, so will need to do this eventually.

Your car have steel or glass sunroof? All those options are for steel sunroof. If yours has the glass aka. moonroof then there's only one option IIRC.

Go with the flocked if you can get it and you have a glass "moon roof" instead of the solid steal sunroof. Back around the early 2000s...BMW introduced the flocked (fuzzy) gasket which helped with wind noise complaints from e38 owners.

Make sure that you get all the old adhesive off the surface that will be getting the new gasket (lots of hard work of scrapping etc.).

Thank you Qsilver, yes I have teh glass roof and will go with the flocked and even better, Schmiedmann has that on stock but not the other one. Yes have read that it it pain in the butt to get old off, but it is only done once in every 20 years so I will sacrifice skin, fingers and time for this

    Thanks again.

I hate to be that guy & bump a thread.

But what part numbers did you settle for?

When you say 2 seals I assume you mean the one that goes on the vehicles body & the one that goes around the glass panel?

I've noticed i have some very small pin holes, potentially bugs? on the edging of the glass panel itself. I don't know if that's a replaceable edge/seal/rubber that surrounds the glass.

I had my 05/2003 530i painted in the summer. The seal I purchased that goes around the hole in the roof was 54107245551.
