    Crooked Headlights. Reason?

    Hi All,

I recently had my headlights replaced by a dealer after my car (2009 328i) was involved in an accident with a deer. The dealer replaced the left (passenger) side lights. (I am not sure if he also replaced the lights on the driver (right) side or not. He has not yet shared those details with me).

After the replacement, my headlights look crooked. Especially when seen from a certain distance. Attached are three images:

    • Inner lights on: lights on the passenger side are brighter than the lights on the driver side

    • Outer lights on: lights on the driver side are brighter than the lights on the passenger side

    • both lights on: lights on the driver side are brighter than the passenger side

I asked the dealer about this and this is what he said: "new headlight needs to “burn in,” and the two lights will look the same over time". I seriously doubt this claim. It has been almost a month now.

I want your suggestion on following three questions:

    1. Is the claim made my the dealer credible?
    2. What do you think can be a possible reason for the lights being crooked?
    3. Dealer said he will look into this. What can be the best possible way to test the lights, after he "looks into it"?

    Thank you.

Dealer is selling you BS. Put the car 20 ft away from the wall on a level surface and make sure they are not out of adjustment. It could require little enough to be taken care of with adjusters or the whole assembly may need to be adjusted how it sits in its spot via loosening screws and adjusting it that way. Also, it would be worth making sure that bulbs are properly seated in their sockets.

Really sounds like they are just our of alignment. Take it back and make the dealer adjust them properly.
