Thanks! I bought black kidneys from ECS. Other than that, a sub, wheels refinished in dark silver/titanium and maintenance is all that's planned.

    I have had 2 E38's and 2 E39's so it's about time to get an E53.

I paid $10,750 which I felt was a fair price. Even if it needs some maintenance, I am still happy. Seems the going rate for similar X5 4.6is's is $11-16k.

Congrats! I just scored an 03 X5 4.6 in Sapphire Black for a bit under $4k. The catch is that it has 213k miles and needs chain guides. Though for the price I paid I really can't complain as it looks to be in pretty good shape aside from the engine. Fresh transmission rebuild too.

Cleaned it up and took some photos. It has a few issues but doesn't seem to be anything too major. I thought it had the dreaded guide noise but someone pointed out it's likely a bad tensioner. Drives very nice.

We've put 200 miles on it so far and it drives fantastic. Really does drive like a car. Love the torque. I had an obnoxious rattle but turns out it's the panel against the rear hatch that pivots down when you open the lower lift gate. Just put a towel between it for now but will probably spray the bottom with bedliner or sound deadener etc.

Brandon, welcome aboard the 4.6is train. You made It sound lie they're from the ladies only! But with the cars you've done I'll let you slide with that statement. Looks beautiful. I'd advise you service the trans asap, and use BG Universal synthetic fluid. These trans are notorious for the hard 2 to 1 downshift when coming to a stop

I paid $2500 for mine with a broken chain. Imola on alcántara with factory red trim. 149k when purchased

Tcg job is same as m62b44tu, except no pins on vanos gears, turn counterclockwise until "click stop"

I do love driving it too. I have an appt to take it in on Wednesday to get it looked over and am budgeting up to $1500 or so for repairs/service for anything major that I don't want to do.

    Thanks, Michael!

Took it in to my local indy to give it a good once over to see if there is anything major that needs repair.

    Some better photos.

What's the word from the shop? Hopefully, it will only need maintenance items.

Upper timing cover seals, driver front control arms and power steering leak from reservoir. They are going to have a look at the guides while doing the timing cover gaskets too. Also having them do trans fluid flush and filter change. I just told them to knock it all out since we are close to Christmas and it's so cold. I am going to get HVAC for the garage first thing next year!

X5 is back with all new guides, chains, tensioners and seals. Now the motor should be good for at least another 100k.
