Ordered new tires- delivered tires are dated coded January 2013...

I just received a new set of S-04 tires from Tirerack, where I always buy my tires, and they are labeled as being manufactured in January 2013. Considering tires are recommend to be replaced every 5-6 years regardless of wear, is this typical/acceptable for new full price tires? Given that they are more than three and a half years old before even being delivered/installed I will only be get less than half of their safe and optimal use (considering they are unlikely to be "worn" out within the next 2-3 years as they are going on a weekend car).

Thoughts? Have not contacted Tirerack yet to discuss...

I would discuss, if only to get a possible discount on purchase.

I wouldn't necessarily like that the new tires are almost 4 years old, but your 5-6 year replacement window is an "in-service" time. Most likely the tires have been in a warehouse and have not been exposed to temperature extremes and UV. If you live by the 5-6 year timeframe just start the clock from when you put the tires in service.

Give a call to our customer service. The tires have been stored in Bridgestones warehouse before we receive them. We normally have 4 to 5 inventory turns per year so we go through them quickly. Tires are good for 6 years once they hit the road or 10 years from the date of mfg.
