E53: TowBar electrics: every pin in the connector seems dead

I know this sounds silly but I have just had a towbar fitted and connected to the plug in the boot area - but none of the electrics to the towbar electric board are working. Putting a meter on the pins in the factory wiring loom plug - the only one that appears to have any connectivity at all is pin 3 the earth. all the rest appear to be dead even with the ignition on, lights on etc

A friend is fitting the tower for me - but do i need BMW or an Indie to 'enable' the towbar electrics or something? I was expecting to simply plug the towbar loom into the connector

Any advice would be appreciated - I'm at a loss

I'm guessing no-one has any clues... so i will have to hack the wiring behind each bulb. Thats disappointing.

Hi,

This is obviously a wiring issue and ensuring the correct connection points are used etc. I'd suggest going to a professional auto electrician and/or a tow bar fitting specialist and having them do a correct, proper, safe and guaranteed install.
