95 540i Fog Lights come on with Headlights

Hey all, my front fogs work great. But, the fog lights come on with the regular headlights as opposed to the fog light switch.

Was this a popular modification? I read somewhere (can't remember) that it was popular to create a jumper in a particular relay for something like this.

Just trying to save some time.

I like having independent control. Did you do any inspections to see if anyone had their hands on the light wiring? Probably down by the lamps their might be some evidence.

The loom looked normal to me. I got up close and personal with it when I removed and replaced my front bumper a week ago. I will have to do some tracing of the original wires.

Yup, that was deliberate. Are you asking why your fogs don't come on independent of the low beams or that the fog light switch doesn't turn them off?

My fogs come on with the low beams and stay on with the high beams independent of the fog light switch.

Unless they're being powered directly at the low beams, which wouldn't surprise me, I would then guess your LKM has been modified.

Ive seen this happen before. If you have projector fogs, youve likely accidentally swapped the marker light and fog light plugs.

Ah ha! That might be it. The plugs were the same I think. I will look at that this week and get back to the thread.

Yup! same plug. Proof of this would be to see if your markers come on/off with the fog switch.

Ok, so here is what I found out. The fog lights come on when the parking lights (first click up) are engaged. So I definitely have them switched up on the plugs. But, the side markers do not light up at all so that makes me think I have a blown fuse or a missing relay for the fog lights. But at least its narrowed down.

Ok, I know this has been covered forever in other posts, but in case of someone just reading this post to solve their fog light issues, the relay for fogs is in the LKM (Light Control Module). I pulled mine out and sure enough there is a bad solder joint on the 3rd relay in the LKM. The 3rd relay is the fog light relay. I will be touching up the solder joints and then swap my plugs and see if that fixes my issues.
