Driving a 2003 E39 wagon with plenty 'O speakers in the car. I don't have DSP. Priced out a new Double DIN head unit from Kenwood and an amp.
Then I saw this Dynavin unit from the UK. Nice integration; seamless integration really. And it has all the bells and whistles including being able to use the S/W radio and phone buttons (!!) and the PDC as well.
Just one US distributor, and the Canadian dollar is at $1.71 for the pound. Is this a good way to go ? Cosmetically, that lovely piece of high gloss Vavona wood is gonna look silly if it's still in place. May as well remove it.
And absolutely no luck finding a used one. Any thoughts, recommendations, opinions ?
The distributor for the USA is J & T Distributing in central California. Go to E46Fanatics and find the audio section of the forum. There's a long thread on the Dynavin N6. The thread was started by Jeff, one of the owners of the company. Contact him. His customer service is excellent.
Hi,
If you do buy the N6 then as per above, Jeff is the ONLY place to purchase from. This is due to the fact he offers a fantastic after sales care and support setup in case you need it. The reason you might need it, is that it's still a chinese made unit and although it's the 'best' one out of them all, it still has some foibles/issues. The main E39 forum with the topic about it shows those and the latest fixes and or workarounds etc. If you buy from anywhere else, don't expect any kind of decent support or knowledge if/when things go wrong.
It's had a recent price drop as well so it's a better price at least !
Opinions vary, but 'most' N6 users have it due to the more 'oem' look over anything else. It does have some better internals and electronics compared to all the other cheap chinese units out there, but still not as good/capable/quality as a premium brand unit of a similar price level.
Cheers, Dennis!
I appreciate the info guys. I did call Jeff after going through the first few pages on the forum. Vey nice product !! Brings me in around $1,000 CDN. What about my speakers ? I don't know if all 4 tweeters are active; I have 4 more front door speakers plus the two in the rear headliner. I guess I could do this in stages.
New speakers provide the best bang for the $C. I'd go to www.crutchfield.com to see what fits. Then browse the net to find the "right" speakers. You need to set a budget, though.
Budget. That's for sure.
So in June, my E46 N6 Dynavin failed. It was sent back for warranty replacement, and after about 3-1/2 months I got back a working unit. Unfortunately, it was returned without a navigation card, and nothing happened when you touch the Navigation button. The radio and other features worked perfectly, but the navigation did not open up. So after another 3 weeks or so, I got a new navigation card, supposedly licensed to my N6.
Once the new navigation card was inserted in the unit, the navigation still does nothing...does not start. Is there a procedure that I need to do to get the navigation working?
Thanks!

Hi RacerX5,
Who's the seller of the N6? they should be the first point of contact for support of the unit. Give them a call and they should get you up and working again.
Cheers, Dennis!
I will not name the major internet seller here, but their support is lethargic at best. They never pick up the phone no matter what time you call, and they don't answer their voicemail. I can wait a week or more to get an email response. Which is why I asked here.
I could be wrong, but I think the Navigation path is wrong. It's set to MobileNavigation\MobileNavigation but I think the path should be Media-SD\MobileNavigation
But I can't seem to change the path. When I click the folder icon next to the path name, nothing happens. Any idea how to "zero-out" the path so I can browse for the correct path?
