So today I picked up an M54 block for $50. I don't know exactly what I want to (or more what I can do) with it to make it the most monster NA engine I can stick in my track E46.
I'd go FI, except I really don't care to fuss with it. If I got the block bored and sleeved for it, could I just put in the S54 crank and pistons for the higher displacement? What's going to be my best option for a simple yet effective head?
Also, might anyone know if the oil pan from a 330Xi would fit in a regular E46? I know it won't work the other way around, but I figure if I can just use the oil pan that I've got things would be ever so slightly easier.

S54 is derived from euro S50 which is based on the M50. S54 is not an upgraded M54. Cant imagine itd be effective to try to turn it into an S54 in any way, they have very little in common...
IMO best use for an m54b30 is to scavenge for parts and build a pseudo US S50 using an M50 block with M54 3.0 intake cam and rotating assembly (crank, rods, pistons)

Wasn't really looking to turn it into an S54 as much as get it to 3.2L. I also already have the M54 block, I'm not looking to pick a block to build an engine, I'm looking to build an engine off the block I have.
I should say, I literally only have the block. I don't have the whole engine. If I had the whole engine, I'd either put it in my E46 or scavenge for my E39s M52B28.
