My son and I just bought a 1969 BMW 1600-2 and it is our first Bimmer. We were told it has an M10 engine but it is a newer 2.0 liter engine, and not the 1.6 liter. I just wrote the engine ID number down and tried to find it on the internet but haven't had any luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is the number on the block, right above the starter...

Then what is a 1 series and 2-series vehicle? Help me out here.

The 1 series is the 2004-2011 (up to current in Europe) compact luxury/sports cars, the 2 series is the 2014-current (replaced 1 series in the US) compact luxury car.
