    2009 750I High miles.

Thinking about picking up a 2009 750I with 105k miles on it. Don't know much about the car and when doing research I saw mixed answers on how long they last. Is this to many miles or does it still have some life left? Buying it for my kid at $20k. Thanks.

Unless you plan on doing or paying for the maintenance yourself or if its a congraulations gift for landing a very good job, that is not a car I would recommend buying for anyone's kid

With the cars he practiced driving with and his maturity I think he can handle it.

Go ahead and get it for him. Post here in a couple months and report your findings.

Warm up the car let it idle for 5 minutes, after its warm tromp onthe throttle if you see a puff of smoke, get back in your car and look for something else.

The kid will be fine if Dad pays for the maintenance.

I think you get the impression that, the responses to your inquiry are in reference to his driving skills. I highly doubt any previous post, is taking your sons driving skills into consideration.

Correct. There is a reason why the $100k car is now selling for $20k. Repair bills can be scary.

It's a late E65, so it'll probably be more ironed out with electronic bugs. Just don't expect bills to be cheap.

    Handle what?

    The size? The repair bills?

Sounds like some sort of statement is trying to be made by buying this car. Not a good choice for a kid, at all.

If you want to be practical and save a lot of money, a nice E46 330i would be a great place to start looking. What I like about the E46 is that's it's very close to the E36 in terms of how it's made and looks incredibly nice. Essentially, a more refined and more modern E36 but doesn't have all the fancy electronics that all the other high end BMW models have. You could spend a bit more on a nice example with low miles. Search out a manual car (reliability), and buy a later model.

Yea if you don't know much about BMWs, I would stay away from 750, unless you have deep pockets. If you want to get him a BMW, look for an e46 or e39. Looks nice, safe, relatively cheap to maintain. I'm assuming your kid is in high school? You don't want a $100k in a high school parking lot- just asking for trouble.
