E53 3.0 or E38 iL both 01's

I am looking at purchasing one of the following. 2001 e38 740il 162k all major repairs done or 2001 x5 3.0 132k. I am inquiring as the overall maintenance. Are they similar in costs or is one higher than the next.

I'd say the x5 but not by much. Depending on how well they've been maintained. From personal experience my current e39 530(which has the same motor as e53) is way more reliable than my old e38 740il was. Maintenance cost are about the same from my experience but the frequency of repairs favors the e39. My e39 goes to the shop maybe twice a year while my e38 use to need repairs every 2-3 months.

Get the E38. Sure the M62 is like a high-maintenance Princess, but a big bulky E53 with an M54, meh.
