Hello Bimmer Friends....
I'm approaching a very healthy mid-life crisis and it's time to start knocking things off the bucket list...one of those being owning a convertible BMW. Thinking of purchasing but I'm a bit nervous. Here she is:

Looks to be in good shape with minor wear on armrests and radio volume knob not working. (Works on the steering wheel, but not a concern as I'll be wanting to upgrade the audio!) Being from a dealer there are no service records. I've driven it, but by NO means am I mechanically inclined. Tomorrow I'm taking it to a friend who's a luxury car mechanic (BMW, Porsche, etc.) I have the dealer talked down to $8800. (Good price????) Guess I'm just seeking advice, words of wisdom, anything that might push me either way. This will be my only vehicle, so it'll be driven all the time, not just weekends. Any thoughts, suggestions, things to look for? ANY help that ANYone can offer will be MUCH appreciated!!!!
Sincerely,
Burnout
That seems very pricey for an e46 convertible. Those are 4k cars in my area. I would look for a private party sale, and if i wanted a convertible, i woulf buy a car designed to be a convertible (z3 or z4)
Agreed...Have you looked up the price of such a car in your area?
I paid 7k for a 330Ci (non-vert) 1 year ago with 118k miles..8.8k still seems steep even with "low mileage"...I like how 85k miles is "low".
Other considerations, does it have a clean title and carfax? Does it have service records? What service was performed by the dealer (if any)?
These are not cheap cars to maintain...they cry for attention.
You mentioned a bucket list...have you thought of getting a manual transmission on a convertible?
Not so much a signature as a cry for help.
Hold on, saw this in a cartoon once...think I can pull it off.
6500 is a decent price, not 8800
My 528 is a German Tank..
My 2008 Chihuahua is Blue deal with it
Always teaching now getting paid for it.
Your quote of "but by NO means am I mechanically inclined" makes me inclined to deter you from purchasing any used BMW. I reconsidered once I took( bucket list, midlife) into consideration. If you have any family members or good friends that are very mechanically inclined, I suggest asking for their help and support in making this decision and purchase. I would not purchase any used auto without a thorough PPI. It will save you from headaches post purchase. Hope you much happiness and fun, when you find The One! Good Luck with search.
Nice looking car

Agreed. Not worth $8800. Three years ago, maybe, but a good prince is sub-$7K these days for a car with +/- 100k miles on the clock. It will most likely need some things soon like cooling system parts and eventually bushings. I would scour Craigslist for a clean one with records. A good one will be worth traveling for too.
