Well I disagree with your analysis. I have seen prices go up significantly over the last year. Ebay and local cars were easy to come by and a lot less just 9-16 months ago.
Yes have a daily driver makes the restoration process a little different. But more rewarding as you get to drive it daily and you know your car inside and out. Looking at a car that you drive less than a thousand miles a year is not appreciating how it drives. Putting 10,000 + miles on it a year is a lot of fun.
when you look at the current batch of most low dollar ebay cars they need $10,000 work of work and that does not include a concours paint job.
Like you a lot of people are buying and fixing and the prices are going up. I watched this same thing happen to Detroit muscle cars.
You will get things sorted out and the car will be buttery smooth and ghostly quiet and then we get to drive them everyday!!!

I get and agree with all you say ! I am a fan of daily driven sport cars or classics . That's the most fun and enjoyment rather than sit in the garage . I missed my point in the previous message . Buyers who never owned an 8 don't understand what it takes to have a reliable running 8 , maintaining an 8 . I believe that most all active member on this forum add up to the top 10% of maintained 8s . The rest 90% are what you see on eBay for 7k . To get back to what I was saying - people doesn't understand why when we sell our cars we should ask for a lot more than your typical 8 out there . KBB for very good condition maxes out at 8300 for auto / 100k miles , 9000 for EXCELLENT.....9000 for excellent . . I bought it for 7000 , I spend 7000 and at 14,000 I'm still not close to Excellent . Would you sell your car for 8-9k ? I don't think so , but that's what the potential pool of buyers will see one day - hey , you are asking 13-15k for an excellent condition BMW but KBB says you should be asking 9
Until there is 8s selling for 5-6k on eBay , none of us will ever see appreciation for all the money and work we have put into ours
I didnt buy the car to make profit , and I'm sure 99% of us didn't either so you have a point . We enjoy it and love the style , however we should always calculate what we are putting into it and what we might get out of it . Ive made peace that I will lose my ass one day . However I'm not in a hurry to see that day , since I'm really enjoying my 8 , but I'm still keeping an eye on my spending . You have to be a realist unless you have plenty of money and spending is not an issue , then by all means , have fun and enjoy life to the fullest

Btw , I'm pretty sure those are not the original tires. I'm assuming he meant original tires as to the wheels . Have 22 years old tires with 70k miles is seriously dangerous on another level
Anyone know who got the CSi? I feel it went for a very good price.

Yes, the new owner is here, and I have been lurking for some months. Delivery of the car is this week.
Many many BMWs over the last 40 years, but this is my first E31. Those you concerned about the tires will be relieved to hear that the prior and indeed original owner, put new Pilots on the car at ~37,000 miles (nearly 17 years ago) and new rubber is undoubtedly again in order. The car has been driven 9,600 miles in the last 11 years, and used less and less frequently. This is the first time I've bought a car sight unseen, but after extensive discussions with the PO's son-in-law who is also a BMW collector, I was comfortable doing so.
Prior owner is a surgeon in the Minneapolis-St Paul area; the car was used sparingly, and well maintained. But as many have pointed out, there will be plenty to do, but then that has always been the case, and half the fun! I enjoy learning the idiosyncrasies of a new family of Bimmers, and this forum has already been enormously helpful with my learning curve.

Very nice post some pictures when you get it!!
Congrats and welcome to e31. I noticed you are in Westport. We have a BMW meet up ever other week here in Stamford if you are interested. Here's a link to the facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1428452727444361/. It's a good group of guys and there are mostly newer Ms, but it's a nice hang out. I am the only e31 so it would be nice to have another older Bimmer there as well (but yours will probably out shine my lowly 850i).

We go to the parking lot at Fairway on Canal Street. The next one hasn't been scheduled yet, but it should be on 7/7 (every other thrusday). It starts around 6:30, and goes until everyone needs to leave (or goes for a beer). Some times we get some older Bimmers (had a mint 79 euro 323 there one time), but it's mostly new stuff, so we would be the "antique" guys. There is also a Porsche GT4 that comes (he traded in his M3, but still likes the crew, so continues to come). There are some pics in the link I posted from past meets (I became the designated photographer).
Hopefully we can get together. I would be nice to know another local 8er.

Congrats on the new purchase. I spoke to the seller during the sale just so I would have info on the car, and there looked to be a lot of preventive maintenance had been done on the car even though it has low mileage. Looks like you picked up a winner!!

Met up with Steve the other day. Great guy and good knowledge of the Bimmer world. His CSi (and now an 840) were in the shop getting ready, but he brought this beautiful E9. It looked so nice I had to share with the forum. I look forward to getting together with him again.

Might not drive a csi but I'm just thankful to be a special one of the few to own an 8.
