    Intro

What's going on guys I'm new to the forums and wanted to give a brief introduction.

25 yrs old transitioning onto my 5th BMW. I Come from a bmw family.

    1st: 1987 325 convertible m50 conversion 5 speed champagne

    2nd: 1989 325is stock 5 speed red

    3rd: 1996 318ti stock auto silver

    4th 1996 328is stock auto black

5th 1997 M3 estoril blue / modena interior, UUC short shift and clutch flywheel kit. CAI.

The m3 is under construction as I picked it up hit in the back and had to get the motor running again but I work in a machine shop so I was able to do the work myself.

    Excellent save!

Man, I wanted to do this so bad to a '97 that I saw newly arrived to the junkyard - but they wouldn't sell it. They sold me parts off it though.

Subbed for pics of the finished car.

transferred M components into a non-M chassis and did a trans swap. I'm well into the part-out now. My car M was hit on the other side in the rear. Maybe someday I might attempt to re-build it as it was one of the very earliest US M3s.

Oh yeah I was originally going to do that with my '96 328is but the color change and butchering a clean M3 beside the damage didn't seem right

    Amazing work.

Question for you: how difficult/expensive would it be to replace the thin strip that goes between the trunk lid and the rear bumper? I was hit there years ago and the body shop just covered it in bondo which is now cracking, so Id like to get it fixed. It looks like it is pretty involved?

Yeah that require cutting old metal from quarters and floor pan and welding the new piece on

You would have to cut and welding a new tail trim on seam seal prime and paint

I'm working with my body guy on it unfortunately I wasn't there for this that step but hopefully the pictures I just posted will help. Are you referring to where the tail trim meet the rear quarter?

Nobody would recertify these machines after somebody screwed with them without any visibility into what they did.
