Hey everybody,
First-time poster; long-time reader. Would appreciate go no-go recommendations or general thoughts on a 2007 328xi wagon with 130k miles and manual transmission. Have been hunting for one of these for a while, and I found one that ticks all the boxes. Have talked to the owner and seen the carfax. Seems on the up-and-up, but honestly, the mileage scares me. Some context: I live in Chicago and don't drive much - maybe 8k to 10k miles a year, which is split between one summer car (whose name starts with a P and ends with "astronomical repair costs," and which shall not be further mentioned around these parts) and a winter beater Toyota truck. This car would replace the truck. I've owned high-mileage E30s and E46s and know the pitfalls there, but have never owned an E90. So thoughts on potential issues/money sucks/disasters are appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick
The first thing is to have the car undergo a pre-purchase inspection (PPI) by a reputable indie shop that specializes in BMWs. Now, that said, if the car has no or incomplete maintenance receipts, walk away from the car.
I bet the car has an auto tranny. The tranny fluid is, as you probably know, not "lifetime fluid" regardless of what BMW marketing said. The fluid and filter should have been changed at least twice in its 130k miles of running; three times would be encouraging in that the owner took very good care of the car.
