Just yesterday my "service engine soon" light came on so I took it to advanced auto for the free diagnosis. It came back as code "P0492 Secondary Air Injection System." I reached out to an indy service shop in my area recommended to me by a friend. They are working on a quote to get it fixed as we speak.
Does anyone have any idea how much this will run me? The mechanic said that it wont really effect much if it isnt fixed but I read on other forums that this could be signs of rust or water in the system.
Any tips or thoughts on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
How could a secondary air injection problem have anything to do with rust or water in the system? The secondary air injection just forces more air into the engine (usually on BMWs, just right into the exhaust) during cold starts. On a TON of BMWs this system is simply disabled by aftermarket tuners...
Shouldn't cost a lot and I wouldn't pay a lot for it, depends what the problem is though and of course this being a new car parts will be a lot more expensive...
