Please help! I need to replace the material over my door panel!

    Hello Everybody,

    I'm a Noobie and I lease a 2014 328i XDrive...

I have a large Doberman who is very well behaved and extremely high-energy. I often take her to the beach so she is in and out of my car. I have a high-quality seat hammock to protect my seats, but I never thought to consider door-panel protectors until it was too late...

My dog got excited and her nails put large holes in the material on my door panel. I do have the Lease Protection but I'm certain that it does not cover the holes left by my dog. I took my car to a highly-reputable upholstery guy who told me that I will need to replace my entire door panel. He said it is impossible to repair and suggested that I go through BMW or through my insurance company and pay my $500 deductible (only I'm not sure that my insurance would cover this claim?!).

Has anyone ever replaced the material on their door panel? Did you go through BMW or through a private company? What was the approximate cost? Any information or shared experiences will be very much appreciated. THANK YOU! Hope everybody is enjoying their weekend (-:

    Warm regards,
    The Noobie

Share some pictures in order to help us give you better answers, but if the damage is what I think - part of the "soft touch" vinyl - then it can not be repaired.

Thank you for your reply BimmerBreaker, but I'm unable to post a photo or attachment as I'm a newbie to the forum

Upload it to Photobucket and in the reply box there is an icon that looks like a picture (next to the movie reel). Once uploaded to photobucket, copy the Image Address/URL and then go to the reply section here, click the icon for picture and then paste the link.

Are you looking diy, or to have someone do it?

I can't recall the company right now. They do dash repairs. They have a machine that puts the vinyl on the dash and it is like a vacuum. Pulls into every low spot. Pretty neat process. I don't know if the will repair panels or not.

Thank you Migou, I'm looking to have someone else do it. I had a Mitsubishi eclipse before finally getting my dream car, and I did all of the work to that myself-- but I leased this BMW and am afraid of what I'm going to get charged with when I turn it back in. I've never leased a vehicle before, but I was able to lease the brand new 2014 much cheaper than if I were to buy a 2011 CPO with the maintenance package. My next car I think I'm going to purchase, and it will be another BMW. I love this car so much and work so hard to have it... and I'm kicking myself for not thinking of protecting the darn door panels! I since ordered a protective cover for them when I have my dog, but of course now the damage is already done

The process of the company you're speaking of sounds really interesting-- I hope to find something like that in my area! I'm actually friends on Facebook with my sales guy, but am so afraid to reach out to him because I don't want to say anything before I know any other options.

My last resort, depending what companies tell me, is attempting to file an insurance claim. I have no experience with it to know if they will cover interior damage by my dog, but the only thing that is helping me at all is that it is a leased vehicle and I have the highest possible insurance because of it. I just know through experience that any work done to the car (interior, exterior, engine...) must be done to BMW standards, and that could be the tricky part. I need to find an actual professional and have this look brand new again. Ahhhhh I'm so ill over this, but hey, it could've been so much worse!

If it's only the top piece, it's an easy fix if you can get the panel off and get the proper material.

At this point, the damage is done. I'd just use maybe a clear duct tape (or what ever protection you get) but what happens if the panel gets damaged again? You can always do the repair when you turn the lease in.
Not so much a signature as a cry for help.

Hold on, saw this in a cartoon once...think I can pull it off.
