I bought a E36 328i. Given its age, it needed work but man I didn't expect the expense to be so high. Now, keep in mind I've done all of the work myself. The MAF was $300+, tires can get expensive. If you plan on driving like you love it, you're gonna want a good set of tires. I'm not saying you need R888's or anything but it gets expensive. The oil changes aren't too bad if you do them yourself but you're probably going to have a few things to fix to begin with. I had to both window regulators, MAF, IACV, TPS, multiple fuses, M50Manifold.com conversion kit (only applicable to my application, but I used it to remedy a series of vacuum leaks), water pump, electric fan switch, suspension (I went with coils, obviously you don't have to spend that kind of money but, I did), and tires.

They are great wonderful cars. Stay within your means.
