5 or 3 Series

May be too "on topic" thread. I have a 2012 335is manual. Car is in BMW shop for routine maintenance and detailing. I got a new 535i automatic loaner. I've had it since Thursday and love it. My manual transmission is fun but man the 535i automatic in sport + mode goes! It's relatively the same turbo six too. Are you a 3 or 5 series guy/gal and why? Forget the other ridiculous number of Bmw series out there now...

I also got 29 mpg from Austin to Dallas today even with multiple stomps on the throttle. My 3 barely gets 26 on average and it's a coupe and lighter. Eight gears in the 5 help for sure.

OP - The 5 sedan looks fat, but feels great inside. The 3 sedan (which is now a redundant description) looks great, but feels tight inside.

Justify the 5 purchase similar to the way Panamera owners do: once inside the glorious beast, it is only everyone else who has to look at it.
