I have cleaned the four wheel sensors on my 2007 323I, I noticed the one back one, shows exposed metal, as opposed to the black plastic housing, does this mean it is bad?
If it works leave it alone. Do you have a fault for it?

well i am trying to figure out if they are working as i am having issues with DTC light.
can anyone answer this, if the metal is exposed on the sensor, does this mean it is more than likely bad?
I'd have to see a picture of what you mean by showing metal. The plastic case should encapsulate the metal body of the sensor to help protect it from corrosion.
You'd be better served by taking the car to someone with a diagnostic scanner to see if the wheel speed sensors are even an issue to begin with. The systems in that car are too far reaching and too expensive to just throw time and parts at blindly.

i hear you there, had a nightmare taking my car to my local guy, who doesn't know what he is doing. Yes the plastic piece, but at the end of it is showing metal, and not covered by plastic any more, would this be sign of it not working?
Could be a result of a bad wheel bearing, and the tone ring contacting the sensor. Could just be how it was manufactured. Without being able to see it with my own eyes I can say nothing for certain, and ultimately... seeing it doesn't even mean much. Only a diagnostic tool is going to tell you if it is functioning or not.

i just did a multimeter test, not sure if i did it correct. on the rear i disconnected the blue collar, and tested to the two prongs, one side i got no reading, other side a number like 756? what does this mean? i want to try again, as i had a hard time reaching the two pin prongs. i need longer multimeter testing pins.
You can't readily test a wheel speed sensor with a multimeter, you would need an oscilloscope for that.
Why don't you just take your car to a someone more qualified to diagnose it?

good idea, just spent a lot of money of late. over $3,500, water pump, manifold gasket, rear brakes, brake sensor.
can I replace just the Reluctor ring on this model, 323i 2007, i have heard i must replace the whole side axle?
