I have a 2014 528 and my local dealer said they will and did change the battery when they change the oil. I called another local dealer and they said the battery does not routinely get changed at oil service intervals. Does anyone else have any experience with this. Thanks
It should get replaced under the Maintenance Program at at the 2nd oil service.

Information
This bulletin outlines a customer satisfaction measure that has been designed exclusively for the BMW vehicles listed above. It
involves the replacement of the 12-volt battery as a preventive maintenance measure.
This 12-volt battery replacement measure is:
- Effective for repairs dated on or after January 1, 2015.
- Applicable to vehicles that are still covered by the BMW Maintenance
Program. This program is valid for 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs
first.- The calculation is based on the current date of repair. It is
“applicable” when the 12-volt battery was not replaced within the last 12
months. You can then perform the battery replacement as outlined
below.
Please check the warranty claim history for the specific vehicle in the
DCSnet Warranty Vehicle Inquiry to confirm the battery was not already replaced
within the previous 12 months.
..... snip ....
Vehicles equipped with the N20, N55, N57, N63T, S63, and N74
engines
Please replace the12-volt battery at the second engine oil service (combined
with engine oil service counter #2) when this service shows “Recommended or Due,”

Why is BMW replacing these batteries????
To maintain high customer satisfaction with the BMW brand. The modern vehicle has very high loads on battery and charging system. I would suspect battery failures were a significant enough area of dissatisfaction that BMW included it into the maintenance. For example the new generation 7 series has 3 batteries and several other models depending on options can have 2 batteries.
This brings up a rather interesting engineering solution: a higher voltage (e.g., 50 volts) alternator and AC to DC converters. That way your high power sub amp can be powered by 100 VDC while the head unit can use 20VDC. Then, lithium ion batteries for storage. The 12VDC system has been with us since the 1950s! It's time to upgrade the electrical system.
BMW introduction of the lithium ion battery in the m3/m4 is probably a step to a new system.
There has been lots of talk about 48V electrical systems for some time ... but nobody wants to be the first to change up the automotive world.
Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by hundreds of engineers that get paid thousands of dollars for something you bought at Pep Boys because your buddy who doesn't have a job told you it was 'better'?!?
Actually themes Bentley SUV has a 48 volt electronic adaptive suspension.

I have a 2011 550 (F10 w N63) that has never had a battery replaced. I'm told it's going bad and the date on it is 5/2011. What should I do? The car does have the MP plan until 100,000. They want $500 to replace the battery. Thanks
Did you ask the dealership what they said if they would replace it? I doubt it is covered though because batteries are normally 5 year replacement where the first 2 are free of charge and the last 3 are prorated.
