Engine Over-heating?

Just bought a 2010 335 xdrive. It had been detailed nicely and after a rain here, I hand-washed the car and applied Zymol wax. The next day, I went out to the golf course (about 10 minutes) and noticed that the front part of my hood was really hot! (and the wax was very smeared. Any thoughts on this?

So did the coolant gauge indicate it was overheating or was the hood just hot?

Its a turbocharged engine, things are going to get hot... if there was no indication it was actually overheating I really don't see anything to worry about.
