Is it normal to want an E39 to replace an E39?

How about two E39s? One a DD like an M5 and the other an E39 Project with S54 6 speed swap?
That way you'll have the best of the two.
Insurance on two isn't much worse than insurance on one. Normally it is just the highest cars insurance rate + a small amount for a second car. The thinking behind this is that you can only drive one at once, and you won't drive any more with two cars than just one.

Yep, that's how it is for me. I pay the most for the new Hyundai Elantra and then not too much for my touring + X5. Also, when I had my M5 the insurance really wasn't much more than with a 540i, even with full coverage and all that. Arizona's pretty cheap in terms of insurance though.
You also have to remember that the newest M5 is still like 13 years old, so it's still an "old car" to most insurance companies. I guarantee that a new stock Mustang GT will cost 5x more to insure than an E39 M5 with a supercharger and 600whp.

Insurance doesn't, which is what I'm getting at. They just look at the car on paper- age, category, etc. The M5 is a 4 door sedan that happens to have a large V8, but it's not a dedicated sports car so the insurance on it ends up being quite affordable when you consider how fast it is. I can't wait to do my M5 Touring swap, because then I'll have M5 performance while costing virtually nothing to insure and register (since a regular 540i is worthless on paper).

depends on how many different insurance companies you use ... I have my 540 registered to my mother (senior Cit) to avoid emissions, even tho I may or may not pass, probly would but future plans blah etc... so it's grouped with her cars, and makes her car (01 suburban) cost beans... But my 3ers are on travelers, and the 540 on "State Auto" progressive dropped me for using too many roadside assistance lol... They never even warned me, and when u call roadside they act like "oh yeah just call if u ever need anything"... And then Bam! "No more insurance go find someone else to insure your POs", would never have used it to have them tow my car Between tuner and welder for header install if I had known that there was a limit at which they'd drop me... Anyhow... It's not bad tho if u have a couple cars on one policy... I wouldn't say "it's pretty much like having one" I guess maybe if it's a Hyundai, like cheap Hyundai not new

Not saying you are incorrect. But after some poking around with State Farm. A 2001 M3 is cheaper for me than a 2001 M5. But not by very much. These are going to be so much more than what you guys pay but hey they don't like 18 year males cuz they think we will drift and crash in turns (no affiliation on why they think that). 01 M3 $288/mo, 01 M5 $299/mo, 00 540i $277/mo, 02 330i $263/mo and a 01 M3 and 01 M5 is $362/mo. I think there's more to being a sports car unless a Miata isn't a sports car because I could own a 2010 Miata and 2016 BMW M3 and pay less than just owning an M3. For both 16 M3 and 10 Miata it's $420/mo and M3 alone is $493/mo. So key is to say you drive the cheaper one more. A 2016 Camaro ZL1 is $675/mo to insure so maybe it does have to do with sports car and the age of the miata or M3 doesn't matter as much.

Order restored...
Replaced all body colored painted side moldings, on my 2003 540i M-Tech, to the original BMW black version. Also replaced 6 of the PDC-sensors to black ones. One of the PDC-sensors did unfortunately have very thin connectors and one of them broke, so I have to replace that one. The driver and passenger door moldings also has the "M" on them (not M5), which I think looks even better. It is a M-Technic after all.
Pictures will come later when the rain have stopped, and I can wash my car.
