Huh im confused I linked a direct replacement. The voltage regulator is a separate unit...

    Here try this one

Should this quality be suspect from the low cost? I ordered one anyways to compare quality ...

Looks like the same one. It doesn't look like a problem as far as quality. I'm trying to understand how the hoses attach on the top of the unit.

Looks like it's just a trans cooler w/o the regulator if I'm not mistaken.
Your temp may be high. Mine measured at the pan at 98F outside temp. was 178-183F
I am going to see if I can find my cable to compare INPA temps.

The trans cooler and voltage regulator are 2 separate parts

Swapped in a new trans cooler and temps are still hitting 255f. Is my next option to replace the radiator if the external pan temp reading is matching the same as INPA temp readings? Dont forget the PO modified a pipe into the radiator section amd cut the clamp off the hose and clsmped it to the pipe with a regular hose clamp for the trans cooler since he somehow had received a manual trans radiator...

Are you getting coolant to the new trans cooler from the way the PO has this set up?

Yes there was coolant in the trans cooler but maybe its not flowing the way it is supposed to? I have no idea... I can always just swap in a new radiator.

Can any and all who have access to INPA check their trans temps after driving for 30min plus?

Laser thermometer shows no more than 102c after driving and idling with checking all over the pan and INPA shows it at 116c. Some spots on pan showed with laser thermometer 92-95c. Would this be a bad trans temperature sensor?

Update: few pics of the modification that was done to the radiator and hope that goes to the heat exchanger.

Ignore the tape (plastic clip broke when removing and this pipe and is holding it in place until I do fluid change again soon)

    This piece was snipped off

Thats been in the back of my mind... Do you still need trans temp readings from INPA?

If you have them that would be great. I saw 116c idling and with laser thermometer showed 102c as the hottest temp on the pan... I guess at least I have a new voltage regulator and trans cooler...

If you are getting a wide range in temps between the laser and INPA then it sure seems like your temp sensor and or wire harness is at fault. Everything seemed to be pointing to the two items you replaced since you had the blockage. Maybe that caused the sensor to go out as well? Like it got too hot and caused it some damage?

I can hook up the laptop and get some temp readings this weekend.

I've been doing so reading on the temp sensor, and re-reading some of my old transmission problem threads. if the transmission gets readings from the temp sensor thats too hot, it will enter a "cool down" mode. The engine rpms are higher than normal in cool down mode, particularly in stop and go traffic. The purpose of the higher rpm is to push more of the overheating transmission fluid through the cooler to lower trans fluid temps. When the sensor reads an appropriate fluid temp, the transmission goes back into normal operation. This sounds similar to your symptoms.

FWIW, the internal fluid temps will always read hotter than the outside of the trans case, so the readings between the IR temp gun used to read the trans case or pan will be cooler than the actual internal transmission fluid temp.

This higher rpm thing happened to me 3 or 4 times in severe bumper to bumper traffic and I noticed it after it cleared up and I was able to move. The RPMs shot up higher than normal. I havent experienced this lately since first flushing the clogged cooler and later on replacing the cooler. When the temps are showing higher than normal with INPA I get a forward jerk when coming to a stop from time to time still... Temps still are showing hotter than I'd like it to be. Was 230f in my way in to work yesterday early in the AM with no traffic on a coole morning...

Seems related to my problem, after driving a while the car's shift points change.

After running for a while the steptronic won't engage 3rd gear until over 40MPH.
