Hi
Some say yes, some say no.
But can we find a definitive answer?
When I look at pictures they dont look forged to me?
Have anyone heard of m42 pistons failing due to high RPM?
Cheers!
As far as I'm aware, the crank is forged, the rest isn't.
What kind of RPMs are you trying to run? Stock, you should be good for about 7200-7300 rpm, and I have yet to hear of one fail at those revs.
OK, so its decided -not forged
I have a e36 m42 with turbo and MS3. Butt dyno says 220whp.
I want to upgrade to forged rods, and modify the pistons to a cr of 8-8.5:1, studs and head gasket.
The goal is 320-340whp but my concern is as you mentioned, if I could make good power with a max off 7000rpms.
I will keep tempetures down with water/meth.
What ya think?

I know you love pictures.
I will pull the engine out, make a new top mount (buttom mount sucks in so many ways), make new intake mount new intercooler. Remove egr and all other useless crap. And do a make over.
First small turbo external wastegate
Second turbo internal wastegate
