Grumbling noise from mid/rear of car

Over the last week the car has developed a grumbling/deep drumming noise and some vibration. It sounds as if it comes from the mid to rear area of the car. It occurs when the car is in gear (E87 car, N45 engine European) and being accelerated. when coasting under no acceleration the noise is there but doesnt become so loud until acceleration. It is driving on flat, up and downhill.

I can coast not in gear perfectly and there is zero wheel bearing noise even going round any type of bend. There is not noise when braking from coasting or acceleration.

Has anyone any ideas please.

I'm thinking front universal joint.
Please note that it is very hard to determine from where noise is coming from, whilst in the drivers seat.
Those front pulleys can really deceive your ears. Check serpentine belt first!.
