    Brake upgrade

I've got the e28 m5 stock 4 piston caliper front/E34 540i caliper rear set. Anyone know where can I purchase E34 Zimmerman cross-drilled REAR rotors? Looked everywhere. Any opinions about this set up?

Try zeckhausenracing.com or autohausaz.com Zimmerman rotors are very common, well known company I'm surprised most vendors don't stock them. I remember bavauto.com used to carry them. Also your brake choice is a favorite in the e28 crowd. Switching to a ventilated rear rotor helps a lot not to mention the increased surface area. Some guys also use e32 750il master cylinder along with the front brakes. What are you going to use the car for? DD, autoX or hpde?

Daily spirited driver for snowless months. I in fact upgraded my master cylinder as this is the 2nd time I'm going with this set-up. I can see why it's a favorite amongst E28 M5 enthusiasts. Thanks for the leads.

i am looking around at what brakes will make a difference for my E34 once she starts getting performance upgrades. unfortunatley the two most promising threads i am following to give me a base line for the turbo, exhaust, etc. have not put any emphasis on what brakes they use. I personally do not want to be screwing around on the interstate and have someone pull out in front of me while i am running stock brakes. not entirely sure what the upgrades will lead to, maybe track racing, maybe dragging, maybe just showing off, but i need something that will fit the daily aspect as well as be able to handle high speeds and slowing from those high speeds

Why not just spring for the Brembo big brake kit? Plenty of stopping power and you'll definitely be a show off.

Here are an example list of stages of braking upgrades and the minimum wheel size you can safely fit. The amount of benefit you receive from the upgrade is mainly dependant on the pads and rotors you use.

    Stage 1: E32/540i fronts
    Minimum wheel size: 15 wheels
    Stage 2: E28 M5/ E24 M6 fronts
Minimum wheel size: TRX, only *some* 15 wheels, 16 wheels
    Stage 3: E32/540i fronts, E34 solid rears
Minimum wheel size: 15 wheels front and rear
    Stage 4: E28 M5/ E24 M6 fronts, E34 solid rears
Minimum wheel size: TRX, only *some* 15, 16 wheels front; 15 wheels rear
    Stage 5: E32/540i fronts, E34/E32 vented rears
Minimum wheel size: 15 wheels front and rear
    Stage 6: E28 M5/ E24 M6 fronts, E34/E32 vented rears
Minimum wheel size: TRX, only *some* 15, 16 wheels front; 15 wheels rear
Stage 7: E34 US M5/US 540i Sport front and rear
Minimum wheel size: some 16 wheels front; 15 wheels rear
    Stage 8: E31 front, E34/E32 vented rears
Minimum wheel size: some 16 wheels front; 15 wheels rear
    Stage 9: E34 Euro, E31 850CSi Euro (Nurburgring brakes)
Minimum wheel size: 17 wheels front; 16 wheels rear

    Here's a nice how to:
