Talk me out of this E31

Alrighty so I've been way too into swapping/buying cars lately but this I feel like I have to get. It's a 91 850, one owner, totally stock, clean title, and it's clean as hell, has a door ding and that's it. Please talk me out of this I'm begging you haha

I would never do such a thing... buy it!

Although part of me wonders if this was the one that was plasti-dipped blue recently? I know it was Calypso Rot underneath the plasti-dip and it was for sale in California very recently...

If it were a 6 speed I would already be considering buying it myself. That is a pretty car and I would fully support getting it.

Because E30's are incredible cars and I've had 4 of them and these are maintenance nightmares

I came here to say this, but you already said it. Hence the bold quote.

The 8 series is a beautiful car. Are you ready to drop $6-7K at any given moment/per year to maintain it?

Well the only thing is that the owner is only asking 5000 for it, I feel like I got it and just sold it again, it could be 8000 or so

Really? How many miles? It looks nice. If you're just looking to flip you might do OK. I'd never own one. You really need to love this car and not give a damn about money to own one.

    184k, hmm...

I sold my 2001 740i sport last year with 183k. Great shape, ran perfectly. 400 miles in, the timing chain guides came apart. $4500 job.

I gave the guy a break because I felt bad. Did the job for warranty time. Reduced the labor rate from $125 to $90. Sold parts at wholesale price. Still, it was $2000 out the door.

    You've been warned.

Pretty sure the V12 engines don't have the same problems the M60/M62's do in that regard. They have plenty of other expensive parts to fail though

So you are just planning on flipping it? Guess I missed that in your first post... let someone who values the E31 buy it and get back into an E30...

If it was truly that easy to flip it, the car wouldn't be sitting on the market right now. Buy it if you want a clean 8-series to enjoy. Don't try to play the market - it's annoying to other enthusiasts who actually care about this car, and is also risky for you.
