Anyone have a valve stem compressor kit for rent?

I think I may tackle my valve stems while I have her apart. I've had scope creep already to add valley pan gasket and a couple of head bolts, so why not right?

I have read about the rope (or bungie cord) trick to keep the valve up, so seems a cleaner option just to use the air compression version. Looks like the kit is ~ $400 though. Does anyone have one they would be willing to rent out?

$400??? Unless you have to buy the air compressor, that's ridiculous.
All you need is a piece of air hose with a quick connect on one end and a fitting on the other end that matches the spark plug thread.
Either method required a spring compressor, but those can be had for <$30 too

The rope method is actually easier and doesn't require the compressor to be running non stop...

I do have a cheap spring compressor and a specialty plier set on the way ($40 all in). This was what I found to keep the valves up via compressed air - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Valve-Spring...item1e9d525a2d for $375. So no, I was not planning on spending that much when I can use the rope method for free. That obviously includes some additional pieces for the job as well, but yes... very pricey.

Just thought I would ask if someone already owned the set up so that I could just rent. Compressor is right next to the car, so quick and easy way to solve the issue as well.

Just found this on amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Lisle-19700-Va...e+VALVE+HOLDER. Should only need 20-40 psi to keep the valves up, so hopefully it won't be too annoyingly loud during the job.

Yes, I saw that but that can sometimes mean that the seller just didn't go through the process of specifying vehicle fitment. Our plug threads are 14mm correct? It has the step threads at 14mm and 18mm, so I don't see why it wouldn't work?

The bungee approach is really easy and straight forward, with no chance of the valve dropping due to a loss of pressure. It is also free, why not choose this option and move on?

Preference... and I just HAD to spend $10. It was burning a hole in my pocket.

I'm still trying to justify the purchase of my air compressor to the wife (along with many other tools), so this helps with that justification. Even if I end up using the bungee method...

I prefer the bungee cord over the air once a day and twice on Sunday. There is no chance of a dropped valve. Once you drop a valve, shit starts to get real - removing heads is a lot more work than what is necessary.

Ok... I'll go with the bungee method... Just please don't tell my wife! And I'll have to turn on the compressor just in case she comes out. Ha.
