I am looking to import a 89 318 from the UK. My concern is the resale value. Would a manual right hand drive car change the value in the US in a positive or negative way?
For me personally I would think a RHD car would negatively impact the value. Its not like you're importing a Mini or Land Rover so I think the RHD would just be weird and awkward here in the US.
With that said you could find that special buyer who finds the RHD unique.

If it was something special that wasn't available in the US (or at least had some cool factor) it may not hurt the value, but it will never help the value and I don't see the point in doing this to be honest. Very expensive to import... probably will pay more for all the import costs then you will ever recoup reselling it...

I agree with the others, unless it is something that others would find cool and it wasn't offered in the US, RHD vehicles here are a deterrent to people wanting to purchase a car. Outside of a postal carrier, there are very few people that want RHD vehicles in the US.
I specifically once remember watching a guy at our local airport pull up to the parking lot entry gate where you get your ticket in a 1960s RHD Rolls Royce. He had to get out of the car and walk around his car to get the ticket. That was when I realized that a RHD car in the US would be quite annoying.
