There comes a time...... <---- this was going to be the title.

Here is my next journey with my hoopty as Zenn would say. Roll back the clocks 7 years and I bought this 96 328is. It was a high mileage car, but fit my budget and I always wanted an E36. My background at that point was a mustang guy. I had worked as a lead tech over at a strictly Mustang speed shop, also have owned 13 fox bodies. Nothing crazy, a couple SCed ones and my longest lasting nitrous injected fox. But no need to get into that. At the point I bought this E36, I had since left the speed shop and bought a full repair shop in NH. A busy small shop (still own today) . at that point I had no real interest in building up another car. My little E36 was just fine. Its no show car, it has some rust, the interior is ratty, but it drove nice and never let me down. One of the sales reps that frequently visited my shops (Modaddict) noticed I had bought this car. At that point she revealed to me he had a RMS SCed E36. And also a cherry M3/4/5. We started talking and I convinced him to bring it over to my shop. He had told me this car was clean, but I had NO IDEA how clean this car was. Its hard to imagine "cleaner than showroom 1995". Well this one was. So he took me out for a ride. Instantly brought back memories of my Fox Bodies. He hooked me up with Marco and I picked up an AA stage 1. This was great, no issues for a couple years. What a great little kit. The car was a little quicker than a E46 M and was simply reliable power. So I decided to start to go back to the drag strip, I was so disappointed with launching this car. Coming from a straight axle background. Anyway, I didn't go often, maybe 2 times a month. Was able to pilot the car to a best of a mid 13@ 109. I was happy, i was one of the guys wearing a helmet, and I could drive to the track, and bring her home. Then..........

It was a Saturday afternoon, Greg called me up and asked to borrow a scanner to watch timing on a friends car (Pbonsalb) . this is where my love for these cars started. Phil and Greg show up in Phil's 35r turbo M3. The head out for a bit, then when they return , Phil asks if I have driven a turbo E36. He hands me the keys and all three of us hop in. We jump on the highway, and Phil tells me to press the button up a couple times on this gauge called Eboost2 . I don't even need to finish the story. My supercharger was sold that night. I started researching these turbo kits and stumbled across Technica Motorsports. Needless to say, this was phase 1. My signature shows were I'm at right now. End result a great reliable setup that has brought my love back for drag racing and power. This low compression via MLS and stock motor brought me to a best of 11.40 and 128+ in the 1/4 on my old M52. Tho the M52 is still going strong,

"There comes a time" to step it up a notch. As my neighbors (Pbonsalb and Modaddict ) and now a few others are all upgrading , getting faster and all hitting the track together, I'm ready to jump up to their league.

There now that I got that out of the way, time for my phase2 and pictures.

Phil set me up with his old s52 . I've had this for over a year, bagged up sitting around. Now its time to put it to use.
It was a stock short block with JE forged pistons (stock compression) . due to a limited budget , im building using this as a starting point. I've been slowly collecting parts and I've now gone way above and beyond the original plan.

The S52 is keeping the stock compression JE pistons, I've ball honed the cylinders and added new JE rings, and Eagle rods. Also rebuilt an oil pump and cleaned up the externals.
Unfortunately all work will be done by me, as budget doesn't permit for labor of a machine shop. So I've done my searching, talked with those I feel have the knowledge and went to town.

The big thanks go to, Pbonsalb, ModAddict, John from CES, Juggernaut , MikeR, GT35RM3, MilKt, Sound Performance and others, these guys have really helped me, inspired me etc.

    More to come.

Bought all this, plus I've already built a 4" full exhaust, under $100. Should be enough to complete the 3 turbo kits I'm currently building.

Well, to put it in short form, I guess you just grow up. Although a gt500 should be nice. Out of my price range.

Oil pan to be drilled and tapped for scavenge pump drain. Nice and clear from sandblasting and a bath.

Since the oil pan is off you should have the drain welded on.

I'm going to drill and tap 1/2 NPT. I'm doing it as I type.
Try to find a 45/64s bit.
Also, I'm going to try to detail this build, to show those other tricks to save money.
I drilled this 5/8 as I didn't have time to wait for a 45/64 bit.
The drill bit cost $8 at home depot
I picked up a 1/2 npt tap on eBay for $5.99. The fitting I'm using I grabbed from the plumbing section at home depot as well. I also bought a fitting from the help section at pepboys. 1/2 npt to 5/8 nipple is a common fitting. 5/8 = -10 an. So I took care of my oil pan drain for $20. I'll toss a little JB weld on the threads when I do a final fit.

Not sure, maybe RTV is a better idea than JB. That way, if I need to change the fitting to a 45°, it won't be a problem. Good call HSVTurbo

That how I did mine, coat the fitting's thread with some black RTV and your golden, no leaks.

I saved 48 grams by going with an aluminum AN fitting to push lock fitting instead of brass :

Undetermined. I'm really not looking for a #. My goal with this build is to run consistent 10s full street trim. Last build was a success running 11s. But not until I figured out how to launch . heres my thought.
If I can run mid 11s with a tired M52 gt35r and 22 psi, I should be able to pilot into the 10s with a built s52 and a 6466.
I really didn't want to give up much streetability/spool.

But, now with a built head, bolt lower end, much better turbo system, it shouldnt take long to meet goal.

As far as #s go. I'm guessing it could be mid 700 to maybe 800 wheel if I play with race gas. On the street , most likely around 650ish with methanol. That's another thing I need to purchase.
The last 6 months I have been collecting parts, really working my a$$ off slinging parts, building for others. Hope it all cones together as planned.
