    335i v. C6 Bolt-ons

Last day for shopping and I still needed a door knob. I went out looking for the perfect door knob, when I run across a C6 vette. Our 1st encounter is on the road leading up to the on ramp to the highway. It looks like its lowered and has a nasty exhaust. I look for any Z06 or ZR1 badges and only thing I see is the aftermarket exhaust. I pass him on the way up the on ramp and start cruising down the highway. I do notice the vette making its way up to me though in a hurried fashion. I slow down and see if I am his target and sure enough I am. I signal for 3 honks and we are rolling at 60. I give the honks and off we go. We stay right next to each other through 3rd and the 1st part of 4th. This is when I start pulling on the vette and shut down at 120 with the vette several car lengths back. He pulls up and says he missed a gear. I offer another run and this time he gives the honks and we are at 40-50~. Basically the same results except I start pulling a little sooner than last time. Thats all the Mexican traffic will allow for this time so I give a friendly honk and wave. BUT I just realized I missed my exit for the hardware store that has the perfect door knob...

I was running on JB4 ST map 2 which is limited to 16psi. I forgot I had switched to a lower boost setting because I believe my transmission is about to fall off and wanted to take it a little bit easier on it. I was wondering how it would do against a big V8 at higher speeds and I was pleased. The C6 had headers, cams, and exhaust.

How do you know it had a cam? Did he tell you?

What are you putting down to the tires at 16psi?

Yeah he mentioned it while we were holding up holiday traffic lol. I don't know why everyone was in a rush today. What I am putting down at 16psi is 435/398 according to a dynojet. The day I went to get a baseline I kept hitting my kick down switch and then blew a coolant hose off and that ended the fun. I was also told by the owner of the dynojet that he has his setup to give a conservative reading so people don't get embarrassed at the track/street. A friend put his stock turbos 335i on it and put down 404/420 which according the rest of the dynojet world with his mods he should have made 450/450~. My PT5858 is only going to make a max of 600whp but I want to hangout at 550 for the love of my transmission.

I have carburetors, and I'm not afraid to use them!

Dude... he has a V8! He obviously has 8 CAMS. One for each cylinder. They are used to tie down the piston in order to keep them from falling out of the engine.

Possibly. Maybe he had too much traction from all the cams. lol

Surprised a header/cam C6 didn't fare better, but that's the way it goes, good runs.

I thought we were going to run dead even the whole way. A lot of 335s single turbos are dyno queens with huge turbos that disappoint on the street.

How much should a healthy C6 make with those mods? I just did a casual search and saw one made 440whp.

You probably made the right turbo choice for a street car that is driven a lot by going small with the PT5858. It is easy to get caught up in the big top end numbers, but the reality is that we spend very little of our street driving time between 5000 and 7000 rpm.

Yea they usually make around 430-450whp depending on set up with the LS2 (pre 08')

It's hard to make more than 450-460 Whp on stock turbos with a 335, at least in my area on a Dynojet using SAE correction. That's crazy you kept up with a cammed C6 vette, they usually do 440-480 Whp depending on cam and heads used. We have two of the fastest 335s in my area (track tested) off BimmerBoost. The 335s I know both put down anywhere from 440-460 Whp and trap 121-124 Mph, sounds like you have a very healthy 335 there OP! Any track times?

Right 450~ is about the most you will get out of stock turbos. I have a single turbo kit on my car though and run a PT5858 so my max will be 600whp, but I only want to be around 550whp. All my track times were on a 1/8 and when I was stock turbos. My best was 7.92@94 with a 1.98 60'.
