HELP just purchased a 2005 BMW 330Ci with aftermarket cold air intake

    Hi All:

As of last weekend, I became new member to the BMW family as I just purchased a 2005 330Ci. I have never owned a BMW before, so I'm sitting at square one.

I found out the car has an aftermarket cold air intake (can't give you specs, car is back with the dealer getting some things taken care of), and I would like to bring it back to stock. I don't like the idea that the car was modified, maybe someone can shed some light on that as well. A local bmw service center is quoting me $500 for just the parts. Can someone direct me on what a good price for parts and labor would be?

    Thanks.

Just go to a junkyard find the same car as yours and buy the intake system, get a new air filter on your way home and spend 1 hour in your driveway installing it. Anyone can install it its not that hard.

Are there any markings on it? There are quite a few reputable cold air intakes out there. I would just keep it on there unless it was some really crap brand.

Suspension: Bilstein Sports, GC Coilover conversion, IE Subframe Bushings, IE RTABs, M roadster sways, M roadster front control arms, M roadster Front calipers/hubs.
Engine/Driveline: M54B30 intake Manifold, Dinan CAI, ZHP Cams, Headers, Underdrive pulleys, Conforti Software, 3.46 diff.

I have a stock intake for your car that I can let you have for the cost of shipping if you want. As the previous poster said, installing it is a breeze.

Congratulations. You have learned your first, and an important, lesson of BMW ownership: stay away from the dealer. You should join the BMWCCA and find a good independent specialist mechanic. Try the Club sponsors in your area or BIMRS, a trade group of independent service shops.

As long as the intake on your car is a reputable brand and correctly installed, it is almost certainly doing no harm. You might save your money for the inevitable maintenance and repairs.

As for parts, there are many good forum sponsors. I like Pelican and Turner best.

being a new owner, and possibly a DIY'er, you will find this site to be a valuable tool
    http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do

enter the last seven digits of your VIN and you will get exploded diagrams with part numbers for your entire car.

You should be able to find a stock intake setup with filter for around $100 shipped. If you know how to use a screwdriver, then it's DIY.
