Hey all,
Just bought my first E32 over the weekend. This thread will be for updating on the progress and repairs on the car.

Back story: My grandfather always had BMW's when I was young, around 5-10. First one I remember was his E32 740iL, white on tan. Next car was an E39 Msport 540/6 speed. I loved these cars and remember them well! So, always wanting one, I bought my first BMW two years ago: a 1995 E34 540i 6 speed. I wanted the look/style of the E32 and the performance of the E39 (needed to have a manual!).
Anyway, after much work and rust removal performed on the E34, I decided to store it for the winter and buy a winter "beater". What I purchased turned out to be not a beater at all.
I purchased a 1990 750iL, black on black. Optioned with Ski-bag, S3.15 and rear heated/reclining seats. It has 129,800 on it and runs MINT. From what I can see it looks like it has new filters, oil, coolant and radiator, not to mention not problems in the ignition or vacuum department. There is also ZERO body rust ANYWHERE. The exhaust system does have some rot (It sounds quite nice because of this, I might add) but everything underneath the car is beautiful, as well as the inner and outer door-bottoms.
The paint is overall pretty decent, the front does have myriad small rock chips. I did do some buffing today (first time with single stage paint), the results were pretty decent. I did take a few video and pictures I will post momentarily! I was, however, not able to drive it home since it has a violent highway shimmy due to a sticking front brake caliper. Car was towed home by a buddy and was delivered in excellent shape.
I do have some initial questions/issues I need to sort:
--Where is the button for the rear sun shade? I can't pull up on it much and there is a fuse for it in the fuse box.
--Have some electrical problems when it comes to the parking/taillights. The orange front corners and rear tails all work intermittently, at totally different times from eachother. I can't find any electrical correlation, all bulbs and fuses are good. Thoughts?
--My ASC light does not come on when I push the button. I see the throttles twitch when I turn on the key. I'm not sure if ASC is on or off because of this.. ASC is good for snow, but I might like to spin the tires now and again..
--Stuck front brake caliper
--Needs front windshield, many chips
--Seat twist *fixed!
Anyway on to some pics. The car runs and drives absolutely beautifully (minus the front caliper)
Upon arrival at seller's place:
Arrival home:
Some neat stuff:
Some paint work today:
Here's how swirled it was
Clay'd
A rough before and after, reflection of the garage door in the trunk lid:
Done:
I'll see if I can forward the videos I took and posted to my E39 friendz, other than that I'm excited to start driving this car!
Not going to mod this one, though I think I'll grab a set of Shogun's engine chips. Have my E34 honeycombs with blizzaks ready to go on it!

Hi Leo, congrats to that nice condition car. Plus two of the rare and expensive original switchblade remote controls in as new condition. Engine is a facelift engine with the oil filler cap in the front, so with Motronic M1.7 and Bosch end number 352 chips, if you want to add my chip set for the M70.
Although you have the original built sheet, here once more

Now to answer some of your questions:
The paint is overall pretty decent, the front does have myriad small rock chips. I did do some buffing today (first time with single stage paint), the results were pretty decent. I did take a few video and pictures I will post momentarily! I was, however, not able to drive it home since it has a violent highway shimmy due to a sticking front brake caliper. Car was towed home by a buddy and was delivered in excellent shape.
I do have some initial questions/issues I need to sort:
--Where is the button for the rear sun shade? I can't pull up on it much and there is a fuse for it in the fuse box. >>According to the built sheet your car has no electric rear sunshade, should be manual. Normally the sunshade switch is center console rear , see owners manual
--Have some electrical problems when it comes to the parking/taillights. The orange front corners and rear tails all work intermittently, at totally different times from each other. I can't find any electrical correlation, all bulbs and fuses are good. Thoughts?
>>> first check the socalled mustard relay, repair is on my website and here http://bmwe32.masscom.net/
--My ASC light does not come on when I push the button. I see the throttles switch when I turn on the key. I'm not sure if ASC is on or off because of this.. ASC is good for snow, but I might like to spin the tires now and again..
>>>that I skip, electric experts have to reply to this
But you might try this: ABS/ASC blink test code
Only posible on newer E32
German version:
ABS/ASC-Blink-Code
- Bremspedal und Schalter "ASC" gleichzeitig drücken
- Zündung "an"
- Bremspedal und Schalter loslassen
- ASC-LEUCHTE fängt an zu blinken
BC = BlinkCode
BC 1 = kein Fehler
BC 2 = EMS Fehler
BC 3 = Motronic Fehler (DME/ EMU)
BC 4 = Drehzahlgeber Fehler hinten links
BC 5 = Drehzahlgeber Fehler hinten rechts
BC 6 = Drehzahlgeber Fehler vorne rechts
BC 7 = Drehzahlgeber Fehler vorne links
BC 8 = ABS-Magnetventil hinten links
BC 9 = ABS-Magnetventil hinten rechts
BC10 = ABS-Magnetventil vorne rechts
BC11 = ABS-Magnetventil vorne links
BC12 = ASR-Plungenventil Fehler hinten links

Shogun tricks and tips for the E32 series are HERE!
Wow thanks shogun for all the info!
I will try the ASC blink test this evening.
I'm guessing since I don't see it listed that my car doesn't have LAD?
And yes I'll be ordering the appropriate chip set!

All iL have LAD as standard, so it is not listed as optional extra. Only if the car would have in addition to LAD EDC, then it would be listed as optional extra and then there would be a switch with K and S on the center console.

good looking car Leo.
Get some good lights in the front, you won't regret it.
Looking forward to your thoughts on the m70 vs your m60 I can almost feel the 12 cyl snobbiness.
Might just swap my smilies with HIDs from the 5 to the 7.
Lol I can't wait to give you my thoughts! It's definitely torquey, blasted it around my neighborhood a little bit.

Didnt find really any evidence of overheating rotors etc..
Also determined by ASC is functional, the switch just operates slightly differently than my E34, right over my head!
Cars ready to get on the road! Hopefully early next week.

Needs replacing the dust boots and rubber dampers on the LAD dampers
2 x Additional damper, rear 33531138577
2 x Rubber boot 31321125878
On my website is a write up and also on that of Johan. Maybe even no need to remove the rear parcel shelf and reat seats to get to the 3 nuts on top, once made it by just removing the covers of the rear parcel shelf speakers and speakers

Drove it in to work early this AM to get it up on the lift before the techs get in there, front right wheel is a bear to turn by hand after driving a good 20 minutes on the highway. Driver's front was a little easier.
Also think I might have a vibration at the bottom of second gear, thinking CSB. Gonna put it back up tonight after the techs split to give everything under there a good going over.
