Recaro Pole Position, homologation pulled -- owners should read!

For those of you crazies who like racing shells in your street car, I know that the Recaro Pole Position is a popular choice because it's one of the few seats that fit.

But you should know that Recaro has just issued a letter stating that you should refrain from using these seats, they found a flaw during crash testing.

    Full info is here: http://scca.cdn.racersites.com/prod/...21%20final.pdf

Scroll to the bottom for the letter from Recaro - it explains the flaw.

But specifically, it says: "As a precaution and to avoid potential risks, all users shall refrain from using these seats. Please note that RECARO Automotive Seating is currently developing a quick product update solution for the seats in the field."

For anyone interested, this applies to seats made from November 2009 to present per a conversation with Recaro this morning. While the earlier seats may be out of date service for purposes of competition, they are not subject to the same issues as the more current ones.

Did Recaro elaborate as to what the problem was?

mine are way out of date Sept. 2000. They stated that they have not had failures, but they could fail. Im only doing NASA TT now, but plan to upgrade when I put in a cage.

I would say that if your seat has the homologation #CS.997.00 on the sticker, it's probably just as subject to the notice as a newer one. If they had changed the design, they would have had to request a new homologation number.

Just to put it out there, I will be willing to help those who have the effected seats by taking them of their hands; ya'kno for safety reasons strictly speaking of course.
