I'm back! Picked up '00 M-Coupe on the weekend!

After selling my '99 Estoril M-Coupe back in 2005 I have always regretted it! Told myself I'd get back into one though...and I did just that! Perma-grin is now back in place. Glad to be back in the community again and look forward to Dorkfest next year!!

Purchased the car from Mr. Z3 (Mark) down in Southern California and it was a pleasure working with him. All maintenance and documentation was in order. A proper cleaning and photo shoot will be coming soon (rain is on its way tomorrow though).

    Here are some details:
    - 2000 M-Coupe
    - Cosmos Black w/ Black interior
    - 91k miles
    - Interior is a 10/10. Perfect. Mark had the seats professionally restored and they look fantastic. No rips, tears, cracks, or damage anywhere in the interior. New M floor/trunk mats too. Glove box sag fix in place.
    - Exterior is a 8/10. Hood and front bumper repainted, very well done. New M badges. 1 small door ding I need to remove but no paint damage. Rear bumper has just a couple small nicks...but not bad.
    - Koni + H&Rs already installed. LOVE the stance. Its perfect for the street for me.
    - Tinted windows already done.
    - Whalen shift knob. But I'm going to swap for the ZHP lighted one.
    - Euro clear bumper lights arrive tomorrow.
    - New brakes/rotors + professionally painted silver calipers which looks great.
    - OEM front mudflaps.
    - AUX audio connection instead of CD changer connected to stock radio. Nice feature I just found out about when I got home.

A couple things I'm looking at doing fairly soon:
    - New tires. Has Dunlop 8080 and they aren't in great shape. I'm thinking of the Hankook V12 route.
    - 15mm rear spacers + 10mm front.
    - Brass bushings for clutch pedal.
    - Rogue Engineering Stainless Steel Clutch Line
    - Would like to do exhaust...was thinking of Magnaflow. But am nervous about the droning that so many complain about. Anyone near Sacramento with Magnaflow able to demo them??

Welcome back! Looks like a great coupe.

From what I gathered magnaflows are quite loud relatively speaking. I think quite a few people have it so hopefully you can check it out.

    Welcome (back)!

I personally didn't like my magnaflows cause of the drone on the highway. It wasn't comfortable for my ears. I loved the way the Stromung sounded but that's going to cost a lot more than the magnaflows.

    Welcome back!

Don't overlook the Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric 2s.. I have a set on mine that have held up to 4 full track days and still have plenty of meat left on them for a 1,500 mile road trip tomorrow. I agree with the community on magnaflows, I had a set that ended up on both of my Z3s and for each it was way too droney (s54 roadster and s52 coupe)

Congrats! You got out of the coupe game before a lot of us even got in. Welcome back! Mark (Mr. Z3) seems to be a great little dealership too, met him at Dorkfest '14.

Thanks! Yeah I'm hoping I can find someone local I can perhaps go for a ride with. I had B&B on my previous Coupe and they were quite loud and droned some...but I loved them. They are a bit above my price point for now though.

I haven't really looked into the Stromung yet, I'll check them out. Thanks!

I've got some questions on tires and I know they have been discussed to death on this board (I've already done lots of searching). Here are my questions:
    - I was hoping to do 235/40 up front with 255/40 in back. But I can't find a decent set of matching tires at a reasonable price that has those 2 sizes. Anyone know of any?
    - I'm really leaning towards Continental ExtremeContact DW...but the best I can do size wise is 225/45 front with 255/40 in back. Would plus sizing only the rear work fairly well?

I just discovered when I was putting the missing ///M stickers on my wheels tonight that my Dunlop 8080E tires have a manufactured date of 10/2003! 11 year old tires...they have tread but those are too old for me to be confident in them. Previous owner was running aftermarket wheels I guess and these were just stored. Want to get them replaced tomorrow.

I now have jajou's Stromung exhaust and can attest to the awesomeness of it. Bite on acceleration (the sound of Gods window down, 4th gear, 100 mph, full throttle, track only of course) but no drone at all.

Great catch. Looking forward to the maintenance and mods.

I am guessing 17's since you didnt say otherwise

If not here are 18's: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...earDiameter=18
Yep I'm running the stock 17" Roadstars. Thanks for the link! I ended up ordering the Continental ExtremeContact DW in 225/45 F and 255/40 R. They end up being exactly the same 25" in diameter and they are SOOO lightweight! I'll see how they go. These 11 year old tires are SO loud right now, I gotta ditch them ASAP.

Hmm! I'll have to consider the Stromung now. Looks like they are $1200 new...might be worth the extra pennies to avoid the drone. I'll see what I can work out. No rush for me on the exhaust at this point. Thanks for the feedback!

Welcome back! I sold my Coupe in 2005 as well but bought it back in 2007...never letting go of it again.

I run Hankook V12s on the Coupe and have been for a few years now. I'm happy with them. I run 245/40 front and 255/40 back. I also have Magnaflows which I am tired of. I mean I like the popping and stuff I get when I'm getting on it and shift near redline, but the drone on the highway is too much after so many years. Thinking about going custom some time next year.

Anyway, welcome back again. Congrats on the purchase!

Thanks Joe! I'm so glad I'm back...going to hang on to this one indefinitely! :-)

I think I've heard enough negative feedback about the Magnaflows that I will stick with the stock exhaust for now. I'll save up some pennies and perhaps go the Stromung route, supposedly has little to no drone.

I didn't care too much for the soft sidewall on the Hankooks. For a cheap high performance tire, give Sumitomo HTR Z III a try. I heard lots of good things about those tires.

Thanks Ian! I wonder how many of the people that had Coupes here in NorCal back when I had my first one still have one?

Here is one of the meets WAAAY back in 2001 when I had my Estoril. Was a great run up Mine Road and into the RARE snow in the Bay Area. What a fun run that was!

If it ever stops raining here in NorCal...and I can wash the Coupe...I'll get a bunch of photos of the new ride up here. We do need the rain though! We like having water in the lake to go to during the summer.

Except that they are also supposed to howl a bit when corning, just like the previous generations I've run on different cars. That's always been the knock on Sumitomo.

I ended up with the Continental ExtremeContact DW tires. HUGE improvement over the old Dunlops that were on there. They were relatively inexpensive as far as tires go and I'm sure will be great over the long haul. Going with 255 in the back really helped get rid of the stretched look from those 245s.

I really need to work on a new signature.
