Bmw check engine light due to broken gas cap or not?

Hey thanks for reading my post,
Right after my gas cap broke ( it doesn't click in) my service engine soon light came on. I purchased a new one and it fits pretty
Good but doesn't really clip in like the original one used to.

What are the odds The light is still on because I didn't buy an original bmw one? Would someone mind letting me know where I can get a original gas cap part for 2006 E90 325i? I want to make sure it's the gas cap and not something else before I bring it in to get checked out.

The proper seating gas cap is critical, but it might take a few drive cycles for the fault to clear.

How much is a bmw compared to the one you bought... Compare that to how long it has lasted to how long the china one will last
