Fitting 118i ECU in 116i

From reading the posts on this forum I have gathered that the same engines are used for both the 116 and 118 and the only differences between them being a different ECU. So, can we not just get hold of a 118 chip and install it in the 116?

I'm sure it isn't that simple. Coding would probably be required from the dealership and it would void your warrenty.

May be possible. Isn't that a pseudo-Peugot engine? May be better asking on one of those forums

This is a predominantly US forum, and we never got the 116 or 118 (or that generation of 1 series in any capacity) so don't think you'll get a lot of help here, sorry!
