Parking brake light always on 1976 BMW 2002

The parking brake light is always on, even if the brake lever is released. I removed the switch today and the light was still on when the brake lever was up or down. This is surprising! Is there a short somewhere? The brake light started flickering shortly after a tune-up, but it is constantly on now, regardless of the lever position. Any suggestions to correct the problem? Thank you.

It is not a short. The "short" occurs when the switch is closed at the e-brake. Removing the switch did nothing. With the switch removed, there is no way to close the circuit and allow the light to go out.

Have you checked your brake fluid level?

Maybe it's the switch on your handbrake lever, not your brake pedal?
