    318ti vs 2g cts-v

Rarely post in here, but it was a race that had me excited to share.

On the way to work, I passed what i thought was to be a cts, thought nothing of it. I was on the in-city highway, so theres lights but the speed limit is 55, so i push 60 or so every morning. Stop at the next light, light turns green, i get going and two cars fly by me. One was the cts, the other a monte carlo (non-ss). Theyre going at it pretty hard and i wanted to see the outcome. They stop at the next light, i end up behind the cts. I giggle a little bit because they looked evenly matched. Look to the left side of the trunk, i see the (V). Im like, ha, he was messing with the guy. We take off, both get around the monte carlo, which is now driving like a sane man. Next light, the V and i. He gives me this awkward look, likely because i just have a pair of unfinished mufflers dumping underneath the car, and it doesnt sound like a 4cyl. Light turns green, we hit it. We both dig in pretty hard. By 100, we pull out, hes one car length ahead of me. Id say its not too shabby of a run. I thumbs up, and head on to work.

Unfortunately, im only running a 98 camaro tune right now, so it has no idea what cam is inside so i makes up mapping on its own via the other measuring tools. Its still good enough for 19/28mpg and still nearly 300 to the wheels last year without a maf or 02 sensors as well.

Whats your top speed with the 4.10s? Bimmer diff or GM?

With a 4.10 diff? Gotta love that T-56. If you're pulling 29 MPG on the highway with a 4.10, I can only imagine what it would be like with the 2.93. Would 6th gear even be usable?

That's the point of having an extremely low differential (other than an insanely potential top speed). I figured a 3.46 would be a sweet spot, considering the gearing in the T-56.

Using the Bok Choy's gear ratio calculator, using 205/60/15 tire size for our control, and going off the T-56 specs for a C5 Corvette...

    2.93

    3.46

    4.10

So yes... the 3.46 is a great balance of aggressiveness and highway cruising. The 4.10 still isn't bad at all, though.

I picked up the 4.10 for free and rebuilt it, so that's what was installed in both of my swapped cars. It is pretty aggressive, with the weight of the car and the lightened rotating assembly, but still reasonable. Honestly, 1-4 feels like the getrag gearing with a lot of torque. I also figured, it's technically illegal to go over 70 anyways so who cares about top and mpg....why install a 5.7 if worried about that lol.

I also use 285/30/18, same rolling diameter as stock, as well as my 275/35/18 Michelin ss from my daily, and then my gay stance wheels that are 17x8.5 et10 with a 205/45. The car feels great on any of them, but up top in speed, the 245/285 combo makes the car feel planted.
