    e39 3.5l or 4.4l m62 engine?

hey guys I'm stationed in the UK i bought an e39 535i … i was told that the 3.5l block in the UK spec car..was replaced with a 4.4l block … how can i tell the difference… by looking at the engine? i have the transmission off if that matters… any casting numbers or markings to look for or anything like that…

i need to know so i can order a clutch setup that would work..

i would hate to order a complete 3.5l clutch setup and then it not be able to handle the extra power

Well, here in the US a 3.5L engine is an inline 6 and the 4.4 is a V8.

    But we didn't get an E39 535 ... just the 528/530/540. I think I remember that there were 3.0 & 4.0L V8 M60 engines here .... That's straining my memory though.

Hes in the UK, guys. They got a 3.5 M62. Sorry, turbo, Idk the identification process for an M62 4.4. I would think there was a VIN tag on the engine itself that could tell you what car it came in originally which could indicate its size.

"guys"? I'm the only one that responded prior to you!

And I saw that, that's why I said, "here in the US ... ". Because I'm not too familiar with Euro models.

OP, we discussed this in the threads you posted in the E39 section, there are idenfitication tags on the block OR look on the engine block for the VIN number and run that VIN to see if the VIN is tied to a 540 or a 535 and that should give you your answer.

Take a deep breath, take a picture of the engine and post it up.. Don't know why you would not have done that in the first place ?! Sigh...
