    Another timing question

O.K., third and final (I hope) question. Following the Bentley shop manual for timing my pre vanes 98 740i, after using cam locks and dummy tensioner and crank lock tool (pin), I set tension on dummy tensioner to 6.3 in, tighten everything down step by step and all is good. I remove the cam lock tools, all is still cool but now, as I remove the dummy tensioner the cams on the right (pass) side move slightly, twice now, I install upper covers which the guide rail is a pain to hold out of the way and I can't install the damn chain tensioner because I can't press the chain rail out far enough, or am scared to I because it feels like it is binding on something.
Before I tear this down AGAIN, is this normal that the cams novel slightly when removing the dummy tensioner and tool? Did I miss a step? Does the guide rail have barely any play to install tensioner? I am frustrated and have come way to far to give up, not to mention too much invested!
    Thanks.

Bank 1 intake cam is going to move when you release the tension. It's normal.

The tensioner is a little hard to put in...

^+1. Are you compressing the chain tensioner before you attempt to install it?

Yes, get the oil out of the tensioner before trying to install it - full info here:

Yes, it doesn't help. The guide rail the tensioner pushes won't move enough, I had to of done something wrong, maybe I put too much tension on the chain when I timed it?

Put a little tension on the chain, and turn the engine.

No go, why lol? The tension on the chain is scary tight, I can't move it any more. Seems like the chain will wear the guides out rather quickly.
