Hi guys
Im new to the forum and need some help. I have a 1997 BMW Z3 roadster. I have had the car for 2 years and was having the diff repaired when my mechanic noticed that thr rear springs were bent and needed replacing. He replaced them with a set from a e36 but the height was in correct (way too high). He then replaced those with a set from an e30 but the height was even worse (even higher). Are there any other models that the springs would fit my z3? Or do I have to have a set made up? I have heard that the rear springs from a 3.18ti may fit. Does anyone know if this is correct?
Many thanks
Provain, south africa
How about springs for a Z3, perhaps? Or is that too obvious? Why is he looking for parts from a different model?
haha. I should have mentioned earlier that I cannot find a set of original springs in South Africa. OEM parts have to be ordered from Germany and a pricey. I have located a set of 3.18ti springs and need to know if they would work.
bent springs?!
Yes they will fit. Yes they will be much closer to correct height than e30 or e36 springs. 318ti springs should raise the rear up slightly when compared to stock.

Given my experience with H&R Race 318Ti rear springs (which on the Ti slam the car), I'd say the stock Ti springs would probably be too tall also. About a 1-2" fender to tire clearance difference between my Roadster and a Ti with the same springs.
I have a set F/R OEM from a 1997 Z3 M44... with 75k miles on it
$100, do not know how much is to send S Africa? if you are interest let me know fast, going to be on vacation tomorrow

Thanks guys. Decided to have a full set made. Being fitted on the car tomorrow. Will post pics soon.
Hi guys
Still having a problem getting the correct rear springs for my car. The company who will make a new set for me for $50 need a sample or the dimensions of the spring. Does anyone have the dimensions including spring thickness and size of the pigtails?
Thanks
Which engine do you have?
Please don't have springs made!!!!!!
It's been proven over and over again here that trying to save a couple bucks up front only costs more in the end.
Try doing a used car part search. There are plenty of online companies that charge about $10 to search for a part for you.
I realize you are in South Africa, so shipping could be an issue, but it is still better than cutting corners on this.
Thanks guys. A pair of oem springs in South Africa is $700 for a pair. Im will try and locate a pair online and have them shipped.
I'm dubious of this as well. Did they rust out?
I have an OEM set of rear springs from my 2000 M Coupe that I'll sell you if you make it worth my time. I'm just little busy these days...
How much is shipping to Durban?
Edit: Just looked it up, and UPS wants to charge ~$350 to ship a 9-pound package... =/

Contact DrSasha or Cemackal. They seem to be able to find all kinds of things and gets great shipping rates too....
You may be better off trying to find some in the UK as the delivery would be cheaper - Parcelforce for 10kg from the UK to SA is about £89 ($151). There are people on UK-based Z3 forums that are breaking cars at the moment. Or you could probably buy a new set of aftermarket springs from Europe and have them delivered for less than $700.
There's a guy in Jo'burg who buys lots of stuff from a breaker in the UK. I could put you in touch with him if that helps.
Yes please!! Thanks again guys
Here's a tip, how about 6.5" or the metric equivalent height by 400 lbs. spring rate and 60mm diameter. Should work fine.
Now in E92 M3 ZCP -- Absolute beast
Shipping from the USA to South Africa is $80.50 for a large flat rate box with USPS, or medium for ~$61, maximum weight per box is 20lbs (~9kg). 2 springs should be able to fit in the medium box.
Find some for sale on the forums here (preferably from the southern states to avoid rust), and have them shipped to you. Shouldn't be more than $200 usd total.
What engine is in your Z3?
