Ok guys/gals, I want this to be an informational thread if possible on 'OTSS' - tapping the turn signal stalk and getting more than one blink (typically 2-8 blinks).
From what I can tell:
-Jalt.de (currently offline) makes something that has good instructions for the E36 (paging Mpar). However, it's in Germany I'm assuming and $50.
-Kahtec looks to make one. No good info online (is it just a module? or? pinout?)
looks like 'standard' is 3 wire, and $30, 'plus' is 4 wire and $32.
http://www.kahtec.com/lane_changer.htm
-American Muscle sells this for the newer body mustangs - I think it's just a 'webelectric' product with instructions. $40. I'm assuming this is easy to wire into the E36, but again I want a pinout for the actual product.
http://www.americanmuscle.com/one-to...ntV1&year=2006
-Webelectric, as mentioned above: $40
http://www.webelectricproducts.com/
(I'm assuming these modules need a power (to power the micro chip the entire time the car is on), a ground, and a signal line for right and left (both in and out). It would intercept the signal wire from the stalk switch, and just send a blinking signal output.)
As for the E36 wiring...
So that means, the signal going to the flasher relay is Blue (right) and Grey (left). Also means the Green/Yellow is the hot coming into the switch. (although I see two green/yellow, they both go into one port so they are both hot w/ignition on)
Just for sanity, I wanted to look up what the other wires are. The stalk has the flasher/high beam switch in it, and for some of us, the CC module button.
so:
Green/yellow - hot with ignition on
Blue - right turn signal
Grey - left turn signal
Brown - ?
Brown/Red - ?
white - signal from switch to high beam relay
yellow - power in for high beams (?) goes to a 'not used' on high beam light relay
yellow/red - ?
What I am missing:
-Ground (there has to be one somewhere, probably brown).
-Check control (my car doesn't have this but it's on the stalk pictured above...there are also varying CC stalks out there)
So I think I have enough, *if* these OTTS modules work as I think (one in for right turn signal, one in for left turnsignal, one out for right, one out for left, and one power, one ground = 6 wires) then the mustang module probably is the same (6 wires). The '4 wire' kahtek is probably the same I'm guessing (with power/ground not part of the name?).
Anyway, I'm going to get something to work - I know it's been done but not documented for the E36 before.
Please post any info/comments! Thanks!

**Adding some more info on the mustang module**
No guarentees here, but this looks to me like:
yellow - power
green - ground
brown - in/out side 1
red - in/out side 1
pink - in/out side 2
violet - in/out side 2
Not sure which way current is flowing here, assuming it DOES matter as it's more than just a simple resistor...

Subscribed. I am very interested in this.
As I just did this last week...
As I never cut original wires. I removed both pins from that connector, and inserted a piece of wire with the same (female) pin in it's place. And then you have basically that same wire but split. One side is the input side, the other the output. Simple as that.
I posted the module's wiring scheme in that same topic I posted the mod.
You need 2x +12v, ground, 2 input (from stalk) 2 output (to relay).

Thank you Mpar -
Found your other post. Question - did you use a ground from the stalk? Which wire is it?

also FYI for those (like me) w/o the 18 button OBC:
one brown and the red/yellow are not present, so I'm assuming the red/yellow is for the CC.
Also would assume the brown is ground, but not 100% yet. According to this same thread the brown and brown/red are grounds.

I took my ground from a new wire that goes to a common ground point on the chassis (just in front of the door, under dash). It doesn't matter where you take it from. Any will do. You can also use ground wire in the white connector.
And as this is my pet peeve...there is no 18 button OBC. There is an 18 button MID, which is the OBC. There is only one OBC, the one with 18 buttons. The other versions are x-buttoned MID's. BMW never used "OBC" for the other version. Again something people made up.

haha, I knew you would mention that. I made sure to only call the 18 button OBC an OBC. Good point with the ground.

EDIT
Found a lot more about the webelectric product via a jag forum. Just ordered the 05-09 Mustang Kit (same as in this jag thread)

update,
Webelectric says it's module only works for cars wanting grounding inputs. Ours is a 12V hot signal, so I'm not sure if it's going to work easily.
Kahtek looks possible, I'm trying to get more information from them.
Just wait for Jalt.de to get back online.

I do.
jalt-04@gmx.de
His name is Lucas.
Last week I had to make a 200mile trip for work, 95% highway. The comfort blinker really paid of there.

Bumping this up for results.
I just tried to install the VW komfortblinker (relay p/n# 000 953 227A) to no avail in my 1997 e36 M3. Is the product from Jalt.de the only proven option to get the triple blink in the e36? His website is still down, is there any other place to buy one of these?
Has anyone made one of these for the e36? Seems more advanced, but you have to build/program it yourself: http://e31wiki.org/wiki/One-touch_tu...#Compatibility
^^ I backburnered this project for the time being...too much other stuff going on. My next step was talking with Kahtec.
I have a webelectric module for the mustang, but they said it won't work with our cars.
**Edit***
Ordered one from Kahtec. I think it will be installed underhood rather than under the dash, but as long as I get the result...
Will update with results when that one comes. Hope I can review both it and the webelectric one...

Jeesh, if I could get this option set up on mine, it'd have more options than my 06 Charger.

I guess I don't get the point.....you're doing all this for what reason again?

Moron... You've suggested there is a Cruise Control function in the turn signal stalk. There isn't. All CC functions are available through the CC stalk unless you have them in the steering wheel. The only functions available in the turn signal stalk are the turns and head light high beam. If you have the 18 button then your turn stalk also has a button built into it that allows you to scroll through some of those functions. Part of the upgrade procedure from 11 to 18 button is to replace the turn stalk

Nice, didn't know this existed...
After driving my new truck (blinks 3 times every time you tap the stalk) I thought it'd be handy to add the feature to the E36.
Sorry, CC = check control, not cruise so I meant for the 18 OBC
That is what I tried to install. It doesn't appear to play nicely with the e36 hazard relay. I tapped the turn signal stalk and it just kept flashing - I tried a couple different configuration but maybe I still managed to wire it up incorrectly. It dosen't really come with useful wiring instructions since it is specifically a retro-fit for a VW Passat.

It's designed to plug in at the hazard switch. Here is a good DIY online if you want to check it out. Unfortunately it only applies to some Volkswagens of the early 2000 generation

ECS doesn't make this or provide generic wiring diagrams, they are just a distributor of the VW part/kit. Having it listed under the e36 parts is misleading.
