    Z3MC version 2.0

Starting a thread to document the sickness. I have decided to dump money into the coupe again pre-dorkfest. Since I have virtually replaced everything on my 190k mile car, I figured That I should complete the job. I am having Osh at RMS build me a boost capable motor, with new rods, new dished pistons, new cams, arp bolts, etc, etc. Installing RMS ceramic headers, electric engine fan, higher boost 8 rib pulleys, and custom tune, aiming for over 400whp. Having a euro six speed put in, with a RMS short shift rod kit, flywheel and clutch. To handle this power I am also having Race Logic traction control installed and randy Forbes subframe kit with dual ear dif kit.

Awesome. But why are you mounting the differential upside down in the trunk?

Wow, Tommy, that will be nice. Are you going to run/running RMS stage II kit for boost?

The car already has the aftercooler, and Osh is going to do a custom tune, and decide how much boost we are running after he builds the motor.

The motor will be built with forged pistons, pauter rods and shrick cams.

Have you considered a Nick G (Technique Tuning) tune after the build? I'm sold on his skills, he will give you max power but not at the expense of motor safety. No disrespect to Osh but TT has a superior reputation to about everyone. Not shilling here, the guy is really good.

I had a stage 2 Nick G tune in the car, and was having lots of issues. Nick tried to help but couldn't figure it out, plus he is never available to talk when you want to. Honestly, I believe living in California and using a tuner in Florida makes no sense. I will be putting my Nick G stage 2 tuned ECU up for sale shortly. I feel that with a purpose built block and a wideband gauge I will not have much to fear, plus Osh is giving me a 12 month/12k mile warranty on the setup.

Sounds like a good plan. I had some issues too but it turned out they were vacuum leaks. You're right, there's not much Nick can do remotely when there are problems. 12/12k, fantastic. Good luck, when do you expect to be completed?

I know what you are talking about. So lucky to have a tuner I trust here locally and happens to be a best friend.

What is version 2.5? Turbo?? I have had 4 coupes. One dinan supercharged, one AA supercharged, and two turbo'd coupes, one with a smaller t4 turbo with a tubular manifold, another with a larger 4088r turbo on a cast iron manifold (my current coupe). This past month we converted my AEM EMS to run on flex fuel (we have E85 readily available here in Utah) with the simple addition of a GM flex fuel sensor, and a Zietronix Ethanol analyzer. E85 is a magic fuel, we turned up the boost all the way, and found that the 4088 was done, can only flow 21-22 psi at redline at this altitude. Doing a simple turbo swap to a 4094 and things should get really exciting with out giving up any bottom end.

You are spending some good money, and things are fully disassembled. Its a great opportunity to shift gears to a turbo if you haven't thought about it. I believe that the turbo's run much cooler than the S/C setups, have much more flexibility. IF you are after instant spool, a smaller 35R setup would blow you away in instant spool and far exceed the peak power of what you are building now with less heat.

I would hate for you to spend all the money you are, only to reconsider after the build is done. A purpose built block.........has it been built for a purpose yet????

Either way, sweet coupe. If you make it up I15 to Salt Lake, or out west to pheonix, there are two coupes ready for you to test if you aren't convinced.

I like the turbo idea, but this setup will have an outside chance at passing visual smog inspection here in California as I still have the Dinan Stickers in the engine bay. Truth be told, I would stuff an LS7 in the car if I could.

I get it. Even being from east county san diego my self, i forget what it is to deal with smog. Its a free union, and there are states that do support and appreciate the small fees they receive. Idaho is one of them. Pay/Register every other year, no inspections, nothing has to be present. I would check out of that rat race and do what you want. Roll potatoe plates in cali. For that matter, there are many counties outside of sd that would make things much easier.

I would always suggest researching the past performance of your engine builder before starting. (hint, hint)
