FI in general equals sadness . The only form of FI I would go is Twin Screw, but that's impossible since they are never for sale. Hence n/a build on stock motor. When it dies high comp 11.5.1 pistons with 2 tunes . 1 pump. 2 e85.

FI has been happiness for me. I thought about keeping the car NA and tracking it, but track stresses cars a lot and probably ends up being just as expensive a hobby as an FI street car. The best way to keep costs down is to DIY.
If you cannot DIY, you should buy a fairly new car that already makes a lot more power and stick with basic mods. There are lots of fairly new cars out there that would be a lot of fun to daily drive and play with. They are not all BMW.
If you are going to do any serious mods, I recommend having 2 cars in case 1 is down for a little while. I also recommend both cars be fun cars you really like to drive, so you are still happy even when one is down.
Labor is expensive.
For general repairs you are usually paying 4 times the cost, over doing it yourself. This number is actually very accurate. I could break it down, but I wouldn't be very popular with u guys.

Yes. And when you need brakes with new calipers, pads and rotors, we will X that by 4 as well.
We both know I would do that job for $5 and a 4 pack if monsters.
So would cost around $11
Point is, at the end of the week. When reports are pulled and week is closed ....parts = labor and parts are doubled. For instance a simple brake job on a Toyota whatever is roughly $280 -300 out the door using ceramic pads. My Cost........$60-70

It's not about a shops labor rate. That's meaningless if it's not fixed right the first time. A shop down the street from me has three bays full 5 days a week. He is always booked up a week in advance because people know they take it to him and they don't have to bring it back. I know mechanics that charge $70 that are worth a lot more. I know mechanics who charge $90 that it will never go to.

Got eliminated in round 3. Against a 10sec integra. Not sure why he was in the same class. But he was gutted on full slicks. The class I was in was supposed to be street cars on dot tires. But honestly I had a splitting headache . the stereo competition and all the pot smoke was getting to me ; )
