Recommend me a carpet dash cover (searched; not cap!)

So as with the majority of 6's the PO neglected the dash on my L6 and sure enough the leather dash has a split larger than Lewinski's legs. Now I've been doing research and don't want to go with the fitted dash cap but rather a form-fitted carpet that you simply lay over the dash and be done with. I've seen this company:

    http://www.autoaccessoriesgarage.com/

but having no experience with this type of thing I wanted to see if anyone had dealings with the company before placing an order. Does anyone have a carpet cover and if so, where did you purchase it? Does anyone have the Bavauto ones?

Last nut not least what do you think the best color for one would be for my car? My interior is lotus white with a grey dash as seen here.

Thank you for any help or any insight you can provide.

    I had the Bavauto one:

Fit fine; no complaints. I'd probably put it over even a non-cracked dash; there's really no way to keep any dash from cracking except to cover it, I'm convinced. Nat Arnold has the same one in his 6er and actually used some double-sided Velcro to hold it down and make it follow the contours of the dash better, which is a good idea. Mine just sat there.

No pics as I only used it at shows as an alternative to a full windshield sunscreen. It looks just like BoldUlysses above. Coverking is an actual manufacturer versus distributor. Mine was black on a black dash. They offered a couple of different materials and it comes with Velcro tabs sewn in around the edge banding. Good product. No affiliation.

Hi Andrew: i bought the dash cap. its made out of ABS plastic. I really can say that it fit like a glove and its hardly noticeable. I tried carpet and they look kinda cheap. I would definitely go with the dash cap. You glue it on and it becomes part of your dash.

I've has really good run with Aerospace 303.
It's hard to tell really, you spray it on and 5 years later there's no fade or damage but you don't really take any notice until you see someone else's car of the same model , untreated and falling apart.

Unfortunately it was too late for my 6, the dash was already fissured.
You can't get caps in RHD.

Thanks! From what I understand Lama is a pretty rare interior color. Lee's (e24mpwr) M635 has a Lama interior as well. I will say it is pretty UV sensitive, though. You could definitely tell a difference in coloration in the areas in direct sunlight vs. the shaded areas.

Just to respond to this, in my case, if I were to buy another 6er, it'd be a both-and proposition, using Aero 303 and a dash carpet.

It's sort of like rust. No water = no possibility of rust. No sun = no possibility of cracking. Total prevention. That's what I was getting at.

I got one from Bavauto also, but chose the "suede" version (not real suede). I really like it.

I cocur, I was just responding to the assertion that there was no other option.

But I think we're in agreeance.

Oh, there's no caps available in right hand drive and I have'nt seen a mat for a 6 though I had one for my E28 so 303 is my only option. I think.

So I ordered this and sure enough it came with the change tray which I not only specifically told the guy I didn't have but he said they ALL come that way. Do they not manufacture this one anymore?

If that split on the left of your dash is all that's bad, it can probably be fixed. Check for leather dying or leather repair in your area. There are guys who speacilize in repairing leather furniture and I bet one of them can do it reasonably

The leather dash was fitted to such a small percentage of E24 production it's probably a fair bet they don't make the cover without the tray. Just not worth it.

Mine has one that fits OK, but I don't know that it was a custom job. It looks like they took a normal coin tray version and sewed in a patch.

If you really want something nice, head to a local upholstery shop and have them custom cut/sew something for you. It will fit much better and you will only have to buy it once. Give the old girl a special treat.

I bought one for my 635 from Autoaccessories. Great company and great service. It fits nice, comes down a little bit far on the pass. side but is still nice. I got it mostly for the sun glare on the drivers side when driving. It attaches with stick on velcro tape. My 635 dash is mint, no cracks. I have not installed it yet, waiting for spring. I also bought one for my Porsche and it fits nice too.
Lets get the party started before it's my bedtime.

Are you sure that is Lotus White? My L6 looks to be the exact same color, and my understanding is that the color name is Silber, i.e., silver. It definitely isn't white.

by cointray are we referring to the section in front of the passenger?

I dont put coins there but I would like if it wasnt covered, or if the cover still allowed me to use the space.

Just thinking I should probably get a cover before my dashboard cracks, vinyl conditioner can only do so much.

As previously mentioned use Aerospace 303 on it, it's like sunscreen.

And DON'T use anything with silicone in it, I'm looking at you Armor All.
