    Turbo E39 project.

    Well, here we go again

After the destruction of my S/C'd E36, I faced a decision. Get out of it for a while, or build a turbo'd 4k pound barge...

    Enter this 1999 528i

Found it on a local car lot, 96,xxx miles with a bad auto transmission. The guy bought it from an auction 4 years ago, but never got it fixed. Down side, tan interior.

I went in and made a almost hysterical offer on it and it was on my trailer 10 mins later. Word of advice, when going to look at a vehicle that doesnt move, always take your trailer, people seem much more willing to accept your ridiculous offers if you show you are ready to take it away.

While removing the motor, found the computer for the transmission had a pin broken off in the connector, may have been the only problem with it... the world may never know. Sold the motor and transmission to a local BMW repair guy.

    Mounts

    First test fit

Where did the supercharger go? Sitting on my floor. I reached the peak of the setup. At the end of the day, 420whp and 460lb/ft are good numbers. 460lb/ft at 3200RPM is impressive... but its not what I'm looking for. I fell short of my 500whp goal last time, that will not happen again.

Went with a very tested setup in the F body world. Turbonetics TC78 with .96 A/R Looking to make 550/550(ish) on the stock bottom end at 8psi. After getting over that, or something letting go, I will do a few upgrades to the motor and shoot for 12psi.

Gonna be SICK! I may have to drive up to Richmond and check this project out, in person!

I've been thinking about a E39 Touring Turbo build. I need a family wagon again...

Kudos! For years I have dreamt of finding an e39 M5 with trashed engine and putting in a 700 rwhp M52 variant. The you would have one hell of a package with the engine matching the chassis....

I was sorry to hear about the wreck but it looks like bigger and better things are to come! This should be fun.

You could also just boost the s62! It's a hell of an engine.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. I was considering an e39 swap even before I wrecked the car. Took a couple weeks to get over the disappointment, but I'm back in, wide open. The only issue I have not yet overcome is the diff. The M5 diff is a poorly geared(for my drivetrain) 3.15 and there are little to no options in the way of any other bolt in LSD's. Any ideas from you guys would be great, hoping for 3.4x to 3.6x

Since you have fabrication skills for the brackets can't you do what Schitzo did on his LS2 powered E39 and fit a 210mm differential?

Must be nice to have 6 studs holding the manifold on instead of 24. Lol
